Weāve had such a busy month we havenāt had a moment to experiment with our own work so Iām reposting our biggest reel and answering some questions Iāve been asked many many times!!
I only posted this video because the piece I wanted to make that day sadly kept having an epic flop so after much frustration, I opted to make the safest, shape I could. I canāt say Iām super proud of this piece, which is why I squashed it straight after and didnāt end up firing it. Since posting, this reel has been watched an outrageous 20 million plus times and Iāve had hundreds of messages asking where they can purchase it (and my jumper). Never did I expect this video or vase to be so loved, and I appreciate all the support we get from our amazing community.
I guess the moral of the story is no matter how basic or uninspiring you may find your work, others will love it and desire it. Sorry to those wishing to see the final piece, and with marbled pottery each one is individual so it can never be remade, but one day I will make a batch for you all to see how the colours pop once out the kiln. Hopefully with a more interesting shape next time. āļø
Finally achieved the cow print glaze of my dreams!! Itās been super fun experimenting with these two @amacobrent glazes. Although I loved the effect of the first vase, this one came out exactly as Iād wished. I think Iām going to play around with the glaze application a little more on different sized vessels. Iām thinking a cowprint mug range is on the cardsā¦.. š
What do you guys think of the outcome?
TRYING THE VIRAL COW PRINT GLAZE!!
Out of the whole pottery process I find glazing the most challenging. I donāt glaze things often, hence the marbled porcelain pieces, but when I saw this glaze combo I had to give it a try!! Instead of dipping my toe I went all in, glazing a whole vase with glazed Iāve never used. Although it didnāt come out exactly as I envisioned, Iām really happy with the outcome. Iāve tried another vase in the same glazes but a different technique so check back soon to see if I finally achieve my dream cow print glaze āļø
Weāve recently been watching many YouTube videos about faceted pottery and although Iām not always into organic shapes, I really wanted to experiment with something different. After some practice with a stoneware body I tested it out on marbled porcelain and fell in love with the swirly results.
What do you think of the organic shape?
Today, we spent time throwing some new marbled blue and white porcelain mugs. Iām fully aware they are currently very, very large. But the shrinkage rate of this porcelain always blows my mind so Iāve gone extra large this time in hope they will be just right. I tried to keep a consistent shape so I used one of my favourite rib tools and the same weight of clay. Although they are not 100% the same, the slight variations in height and width give them more of a handmade feel.
We have the next few days teaching but I canāt wait to sneak in a bit of time to get these mug bodies trimmed and handles added āļø

Workshops at Design Junction āØ
Many people ask us about selling our own work, and we do, but our true passion is teaching. Seeing people who have never touched clay before walk away proud of their achievements is the best feeling. Making your own work at home can be a very lonely place, no matter how much you enjoy what you do. The human connection, the laughs, the whoopsies and the lightbulb moments, they are the things that keep our passion alive. At Design Junction we take so much pride over making sure our teaching is easy to understand but also enjoyable. We have a whole new range of workshops coming very soon, as well as some new classes now on. Including our next step, ābeyond the basicsā, throwing workshop. Perfect for those who have joined us previously and wish to learn more.
We were very lucky to have @apertureandinterstice visit our studio and take some beautiful candid photos of the studio and the classes we run. Sharon done an incredible job at ensuring the joy of our studio is captured in every photo āØ
Weāre always asked about beginners marbling classes. And as much as marble throwing is fun, the final result is always hidden under slip until trimmed a few days later. So weāve been practicing some marble slip pouring for our new summer workshop schedule to fill the gap!! For a first attempt this wasnāt half bad. Iāve learnt so much from the experience and I now have the urge to pour 1000ās marbled bowls and cups until I get the colours and swirl just right! We canāt wait to introduce this new beginner friendly workshop to you all this summer.
Is this a workshop idea you guys would like to try out for yourselves?

The question I get asked the most!!!
This is how I colour small batches of porcelain, for big batches I try to mix up stains and slip, itās a longer process but a more even distribution of colour.
Would you like to see a video of mixing large batches of clay? āØ
Very much a ātrust the processā kind of throw. My first time throwing a one piece mushroom and I was pleasantly surprised by the results!! Although I love it, it is completely and utterly pointless so I think next time making it hollow as a vase would look super cute āļø
