Last month, a small group of us headed out with @desertdelta and ran for three days through the Okavango Delta and across the Kalahari to the sacred Mountains of the Gods — Tsodilo Hills — linking two UNESCO World Heritage Sites on foot for the first time.
Today, the Okavango to Tsodilo Ultra-Trail won the INSPIRE Africa Award at @weareafricatravel — recognising experiences that challenge expectations and tell Africa’s most compelling stories.
Thank you guys we’re so proud of the award. What we’ll carry longest is harder to name though. People from different worlds, moving through one of the most extraordinary landscapes on earth — guided by Kuti from Nxamaseri village through remote fishing communities along the Panhandle, sleeping beneath the stars at Tsodilo Hills hosted by the San community who have called these mountains home for thousands of years. Doing hard things together. We became like family.
That journey also planted the seed for the @okavango_marathon_project — building a trail running community in Botswana, supporting athletes from remote communities, and creating a new kind of experience economy in a country that deserves more than just safaris.
