The biggest thing you learn as an independent filmmaker in this space is that making a successful movie doesn’t always take money. It takes ingenuity. It takes hustle. And sometimes, it just takes pure grit.
Locations, resources, impossible situations — you have to figure them out. There is no rescue boat coming. And there’s no better person to help you figure it out than your producer.
If you have a producer that’s just as willing, just as hungry, and just as ready to go to war for the film as you are, there’s no limit to how amazing your movie can become.
I’ve been fortunate enough to have a partner in Roxanne, who I truly believe is one of the greatest producers to ever touch this space. Over $200M+ in box office receipts. Films that opened #1 in the world. Movies made for under $4M that competed with the biggest studios in Hollywood.
That’s not normal. That’s commitment. That’s vision. That’s leadership.
My note to every filmmaker: find a great producer. Find someone who will fight for the movie no matter what.
I’ve been in situations where the lights were literally being turned off while shooting, and Roxanne was outside talking to people, buying me just enough time to get the shot.
That’s teamwork.
That’s partnership.
That’s filmmaking.

Took me years to learn how you can be full of joy light and energy , want to see everyone win! Walk with pure intention — but yet encounter hate , negative and fake… As you get older you realize this is the balance of life and energy … darkness cannot stand light , more importantly , some simply can’t understand how you could be so open and clear , when they are so driven off deception , manipulation and ego! ITS CRAZY — cause once you feel it from someone — you can’t unsee it !! At times these spirits will remove themselves abruptly !! Keep moving with God ! Keep pushing out positive intention !! This is how you win in the real Game of life … we not matching energy we removing you from our realm !
I stopped asking for permission a decade ago! Run your race — and stop waiting for them to cheer for you! Cheer for yourself! Make your art ! And stop worrying about what “they think!! Tell em to get a box of popcorn and buy a ticket !!!

Hard to believe there was a time , where I could not imagine a world where you made a feature film with out shooting FILM !!! Took me along time to convert ! And sometimes I miss the energy of the sound and just the reloading process !! 35 mil , 16 mil , 8 mil —- just a special moment in my life ! Shot out to #dantespinotti and the amazing people at @panavisionofficial for showing me the digital world is absolutely amazing!! Something about that grain in your picture that makes you smile !!
