Look who’s making a splash! 💦
This morning, the Denver YMCA partnered with Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver and the Wheatlands Metropolitan District to offer nearly 100 youth a FREE Community Swim Lesson.
Community members of all ages came out to learn new skills and have some fun. Big thanks to the Aurora Fire Rescue, team who was also on site with a fire truck and important water safety lessons.
Together, we’re helping kids build water safety skills, confidence and life-saving abilities that can make a real difference this summer and beyond. 🏊

Did you know the roots of modern surfing in the U.S. trace back to a
YMCA? Olympic gold medalist Duke Kahanamoku trained at the Central
Y, where he set world records in the 400 and 500 relay races in 1916.
After retiring from competitive swimming, he toured the world giving
swimming exhibitions - and along the way, introduced the mainland
U.S. to the sport of surfing, a tradition deeply rooted in his Hawaiian
heritage. His legacy lives on in the waves and in the Y’s commitment to
community and culture. #AAPIHeritageMonth

Water Smart Rule #3: Buddy Up or Dry Out.
The Buddy System isn’t just for field trips; it’s for every swimming
session. No one swims alone. So be sure to:
✨ Pick your buddy.
✨ Stick together.
✨ Stay safe.

From planting seeds to growing confidence 🌱💚
Our kids at Southwest have been hard at work building their garden as part of a shared learning collaboration with the Denver Master Gardeners program at CU. Thanks to funding from our PNC Bank Grant, these young gardeners are learning teamwork, responsibility, and the joy of watching something grow. 🌼🥕
Strong families build strong communities, and we’re lucky to have so many incredible moms helping lead the way at the YMCA.
Today we celebrate the love, care and dedication they bring both at home and at the Y. Happy Mother’s Day 💐
May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and we’re
honoring the powerful legacy of AAPI leaders in the YMCA movement.
Did you know the first Chinese American YMCA opened its doors in San
Francisco in 1911? From English and Mandarin classes to health
lectures and even a machine shop, it was a hub of learning and
community. Today, the Chinatown YMCA continues to be a cornerstone
of connection and support. Let’s celebrate the stories that shaped our
Y and continue to inspire us. #AAPIHeritageMonth

Water Smart Rule #2: Find Your Water Watcher.
Every swim session needs a designated Water Watcher.
That means: no phones, no books, no distractions - just eyes on the
water. Kids? Teens? Adults? Everyone needs supervision!

Mental health is more than what we think. It's how we feel, move, and
connect. It’s spirit, mind, and body.
At the YMCA of Metro Denver, we believe everyone has mental health, and
everyone deserves care, compassion, and support. This month, we’re
opening the conversation. Join us. #WeAllHaveMentalHealth
This Teacher Appreciation Week, we’re celebrating the incredible educators who make Y Academy such a special place to learn and grow. 🍎
Our teachers do so much more than lead lessons. They inspire curiosity, nurture confidence and create a safe, supportive environment where every child can thrive. Their impact reaches far beyond the classroom and into the hearts of the families we serve every day. 🌟

Did you know Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month honors
communities from more than 50 countries and islands across Asia and
the Pacific? This month, we celebrate the vibrant cultures and
contributions that enrich the YMCA of Metro Denver community every
day. From every corner of the map, your stories shape our shared
story. #AAPIHeritageMonth
Water Smart Rule #1: Ask First, Splash Later.
Always ask permission before getting in the water. Whether it’s a pool,
lake, or even the bathtub – make sure you don’t splash without a
grown-up’s go-ahead.
Why? Because while water is fun, it’s also very powerful.
Share this with your swimming buddies! #WaterSafetyMonth
We are honored to be part of something bigger than ourselves.
We have been challenged by the @ymcapgh to join the 4 Quarters of Impact campaign in celebration of LIVESTRONG at the YMCA programs nationwide.
We proudly accept the challenge.
This is a celebration of survivors, supporters, and the communities that make healing possible.
