Our team in the Netherlands recently hosted the Challengers Accepted Business Course 2026, bringing together participants for three days of insightful talks, collaboration and networking.
Olympic champion Lars Balk shared his talk, “From hoping to compulsion,” followed by a session from former coach Mark Borgers on translating those insights into professional practice. Partner Anouk Rosielle told participants more about life at Dentons before they worked on a case as part of the Legal Challenge.
Thank you to the speakers, partners and participants for making this a successful event.
In a unanimous decision, Zambia’s Constitutional Court has struck down section 2 of the Citizenship Act 2016, removing a significant barrier that prevented many refugees and their families from accessing citizenship.
The case, brought by the Zambian Civil Liberties Union, challenged the requirement for refugees and their children to obtain permanent residency before applying for citizenship, a condition that left many without nationality and excluded from essential rights.
The Global Strategic Litigation Council (GSLC), which joined the case as amicus curiae and was represented by Dentons, argued that the law conflicted with Zambia’s international obligations, including the prevention of statelessness, non‑discrimination, and the right of children born in the country to access nationality.
The ruling reinforces Zambia’s constitutional and international commitments to prevent statelessness and ensure access to nationality, a significant step forward for dignity, inclusion, and equal rights.
The Dentons team supporting the GSLC spanned the US and Zambia and was comprised of Diora Ziyaeva, Mailesi Undi, Lubinda Linyama, Eric Silwamba SC, Joseph Jalasi, and Wana Chinyemba.
