Yesterday, Denton ISD proudly dedicated the Jeannene Abney Fine Arts Center at Ryan High School in honor of Jeannene Abney, a distinguished theatre educator whose career has spanned more than four decades of excellence in Texas education and performance. Ms. Abney’s story is one of passion, creativity, and a deep commitment to her students. Since 1992, she has been a cornerstone of the theatre program at Ryan High School, where she taught Theatre I through IV, directed UIL One Act Play, and coached Poetry and Prose. Under her direction, students achieved multiple UIL state advancements in One Act Play and seven state championships in Poetry and Prose. Family, friends, former students, and staff gathered to celebrate an educator whose impact reaches far beyond the stage. A Texas Thespian Hall of Fame inductee, State Thespian Chair, and devoted contributor to Denton Community Theatre, Ms. Abney has shaped theatre education at every level, from this campus to stages across the state and nation. The Jeannene Abney Fine Arts Center stands as a lasting tribute to a career defined by leadership, artistry, and a genuine love for students. We are proud to carry her name forward. 🔗 Read the full story through the district news link in our bio. 📸 View all the photos from the event through the Flickr link in our bio.

The Board of Trustees has approved the 2026–27 compensation plan, another meaningful step in recognizing the people who show up every day for our 33,200+ students. What's included: ✅ 4% market increase for teachers ✅ 2% midpoint increase for staff ✅ New $63,500 starting salary for first-year teachers Combined with last year's raise and the 1% increase given in March following Prop A, that's an 8% increase for teachers and 6% for staff over just two years.
