I filmed this footage with my first professional underwater camera housing, on my first diving trip to the Red Sea with my father. Many people look for big encounters, but I find smaller fish more interesting, especially the half-and-half chromis, which I learned about later, a damselfish defined by its black and white colors.
21 dives across the Gulf of Tiran and the Gulf of Aqaba, with my best dive buddy, my father, as he was lighting my shots with his torch because I don’t have video lights yet.
Many thanks to Yousef @mergl and Alaa @alaa.barracuda for their guidance. Also to the hardworking boat crew, who impressed me with their maritime skills. @kingsnefrofleet 🌊

The SS Dunraven wreck dive stood out to me during my trip, even compared to the more famous shipwreck Thistlegorm. Its broken structure allows light to enter through many openings, creating beautiful natural light inside.
The SS Dunraven, a British cargo steamship carrying cotton and spices from India, struck Beacon Rock reef and sank in 1876. The wreck lies upside down on the seabed at around 30 m depth, about 80 m long. The stern rests on the sand, with openings once used for penetration, though some areas are now unstable due to age. Inside, the structure leads past the boiler and out through the break in the hull, where we saw large schools of glassfish.

That’s what the best day of 2023 looked like: October 27th. A cherished memory, paddling over 11kms for wreck diving, my first time at C47 Dakota wreck without a tank. Encountered a wounded amberjack, a wise sea turtle, and enjoyed a cup of warm coffee. w/ @boraordu@bluedoorfreedivingschool #freediving #wreckdiving
Nothing feels like learning; that’s true happiness. That was my deepest dive yet, after 6 days of training with @boraordu Now, I’m on a crowded train where everyone is trying to reach a destination. I remember what I’ve learned: freediving is not all about reaching the touchdown. I hold my breath, look around, and dream of being underwater again. #freediving @bluedoorfreedivingschool
And loved to dive with my trusty vintage orange fins, a flea market find that turned out to be a hidden gem. 🧡
🌊 In our fast-paced modern lives, we’ve unknowingly drifted away from the sea. For many, the ocean is just a distant backdrop, where fish magically appear on our plates. We’ve forgotten the vibrant life beneath the surface.
Grateful to @METU_IMS for the invite to the International Conference on Türkiye’s Contributions to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. 🌍 Let’s reconnect with the sea and make a splash for a sustainable future. 🌊💙 #OceanConservation #UNoceandecade #SustainableDevelopment @metu_ims #BlueMed
