After receiving PRIOR APPROVAL twice from Delta Air Lines to travel internationally with our 5 cats — including all documents, vaccines, carrier dimensions, and airline requirements fully approved — we were denied boarding TWICE at the airport with no coherent explanation. First attempt: April 28th. Second attempt: May 5th. Both times, Marcelo and I left Manteca, CA in the middle of the night carrying: • 7 suitcases • backpacks and bags • multiple airline-approved pet carriers • and our cats, who are part of our family and registered emotional support animals. We spent entire days at the airport only to be humiliated, mocked, publicly embarrassed, and sent back home after hours of emotional exhaustion, financial loss, and severe stress. I am moving back to Brazil after 9 years away from my family, and I had already vacated my home before all of this happened. At one point, airline staff even suggested that I should “leave my cats behind” or “give them away” if I wanted to travel. Absolutely not. My cats ARE my family. After everything we went through, Delta’s response was offering us two $50 vouchers. I had one of the most frustrating and humiliating experiences with an airline, and I feel the need to share this. I had a reservation with Delta Air Lines that was fully approved in advance. I clearly informed them—twice during booking—that we were 2 passengers traveling with 5 cats. All details were provided, and everything was authorized. But when I arrived at the airport, after leaving home in the middle of the night, a staff member who claimed to be a supervisor refused to honor what had already been approved. She said I could only bring two carriers—basically implying I should abandon the rest of my pets at the airport. Completely unacceptable. I tried to solve the situation calmly. I offered to buy an extra seat or pay any additional fees. She refused everything, saying she would not authorize it under any circumstances. What’s even worse: she was rude, dismissive, and treated me and my husband with clear hostility, while assisting other passengers normally. At one point, it even felt like we were being mocked by staff. So here’s the question: if I provided ALL the information correctly, and the airline approved my reservation, how can they deny it at the airport? If there are policies, it’s the company’s responsibility to inform customers BEFORE approving the purchase—not after. This was not my mistake.
