@goasunsplash 2025 - through the year we do our dances in the grassroots. We’re mostly hidden and you have to search and find the sessions. Then once a year we all gather to put reggae on the map in India. It’s a “We’re Here Moment” - it’s also the only time you get to see big live acts from Jamaica in India. Reggae is more than music. It’s not only the bedrock of all bass music - it’s also the conscience keeper of the colonised world. A call to emancipation from mental slavery. To me there are three somatic energies / archetypes that are encoded into the music and can become available as felt experience: 1 Slackness which allows you to experience yourself as a sexual being. 2 Badness which allows you to feel a kind of warrior power and unassailability and lastly 3 The deep reverence and spiritual catharsis of Rastafari. Through reggae can speak the spirit of the Coromanti and Ashanti tribes, the Tainos who were wiped out as a people, language and culture but who’s DNA is still present. The Ghost Dancers and Nyahbingi cults. Word Sound Power. I learnt to jump on stage and run government on the riddim from watching the likes of young Buju - Capleton, Bounty Killer, Shabba … and all the foremothers and fathers that set it. A Celebration of Love and Culture ♥️
BiG BANG Festival 2024 made a stunning comeback in a serene Dimasa village of Dima Hasao, uniting 500 conscious travelers and locals for a celebration of music, culture, and community.
The festival featured diverse performances by folk groups, rock bands, hip-hop collectives, and singer-songwriters, amplified by the iconic hand-built BFR Sound System. Beyond music, attendees explored workshops on bamboo weaving, Judima wine-making, Jhum farming and Medicinal Plants while enjoying a Community Feast curated by chef Roohi Haflongbar.
This edition was made possible with the support of BFR Soundsystem, @worldwide.fm and the Studio Monkey Shoulder initiative by @monkeyshoulder .
By spotlighting indigenous knowledge and promoting sustainable living, BiG BANG 2024 became more than just a festival, it was a movement for cultural revival and conscious living with the focus on localised economies. Thank you for being part of this journey. Until next time!
