📝Pop Quiz Hot Shots!
🏷️Brockum tags are among the most counterfeited vintage t-shirt brands. New generations of fake Brockum tags are now popping up monthly.
🌍The "World Wide" iteration appears to be the primary target, and as you can see by this quiz, the fakes are getting more and more convincing. The good news is that there are virtually zero legit variances in World Wide tags, Brockum was very consistent while producing these tags.
🐐Brockum is a part of the GOATS program initiative (Guardians of Authentic T-Shirts), which aims to stamp out fakes. Here's a side-by-side comparison of fake versus real tags to help you along the way.
🕵️Can you spot every single one?

There has to be a way to safely wear your precious authentic vintage T-shirts out in public...
Enter The Grail Shield 🛡️👕 a revolutionary T-shirt protection device that gives you peace of mind when stains threaten your torso.
The front of the shield is made from a cellulose compound, aka paper. The back features a high-tech polymer, aka plastic, to protect your tee from even the deepest of stains. The neck opening automatically contours to the shape of your neck—yeah, it's a hole with neck ties.
And the stylish logo lets others know you're serious about protecting your precious vintage T-shirt.
If you're interested in field testing a Grail Shield, we're giving away 25 of them.
Here's how to enter:
1. Follow @defunkd
2. Tag TWO people in the comments. Please make sure they are grail wearers who could benefit from this revolutionary product.
3. Or, share this reel with your story (and tag us so we can keep track of it!)
4. Do steps 2 AND 3 to double your chances of winning.
In a week, we'll review all the entries and randomly select 25 lucky people who will help shape the future of vintage t-shirt protection. They'll receive a free Grail Shield prototype by mail.
🙏A big shout out to the artists and photographers who created these OG t-shirt designs, including Bad Otis Link and photographers Edward Colver (RCHP), Rocky Schenck (AIC) Robert Fisher (Nirvana) and Mike Kelly (SY). The before images were generated using AI and superimposed true vintage t-shirt designs, so no true vintage t-shirts were harmed while making this satirical infomercial. We have never, nor will we ever manufacture any t-shirts with these designs.🫡
Big thanks to @superhebro for inspiring this idea while at an all-you-can-eat buffet.

As always, big thanks to @lootfamvtg for the video!
What started as a simple wanted ad turned into a two-hour conversation in a garage full of memories. 🕰️📦
When @insightfulfinds (Kevin) put out an ad looking to buy old clothes, a woman named Val answered. Turns out, from 1973 to 1982, she was a Playboy Bunny — and the shirts she saved came with stories you couldn’t put a price tag on. 🐰✨
“She was expecting me to just buy the shirts and leave, but I ended up sitting with her in her garage for two hours,” Kevin said. “Seeing her relive it through her eyes, she was just so happy to talk about it.”
It’s a good reminder: if you’re buying tees from the OG owner, ask questions. Ask where they got it, what they were doing when they wore it, and what that time in their life looked like. Sometimes the stories end up being better than the shirts themselves. 👕❤️
“To be able to sit down and talk with this lady, it was really cool. The story behind the shirts made it way cooler for me.”
In a world full of off-the-back challenges and speed-run deals, seeing young dealers genuinely interested in the history behind the shirts feels like a refreshing change. 🙌
📣BIG shout to @thrift_con for originally highlighting this story and always showcasing the positive parts of this community. 🤝

🕵️♂️ UPDATE: THE TOUR TEE HUNT CONTINUES… 👕
First off — HUGE thanks to everyone who joined the scavenger hunt and submitted. The response was honestly incredible. We got flooded with deep cuts, obscure relics, bootlegs, concert souvenirs, festival shirts, movie-band oddities, and some seriously early contenders. 🧠💥
After digging through all the entries, we’ve narrowed the field down to 11 shirts from 1972 and earlier.
But here’s where things get tricky…
Not every shirt fits neatly into the “tour tee” category.
Some only feature a year.
Some are tied to one specific concert or event.
Some have a month/day but no year.
A few are borderline cases we felt deserved inclusion anyway — including a fictional band from a 1970 tee and a festival shirt with several artists from the same year.
So honestly? It’s a real mixed bag… which is exactly what makes this so interesting.
At this point, we’re leaving it up to YOU to help decide the two winners 🏆
Which one feels like the earliest TRUE tour t-shirt?
🥇: $200
🥈: $50
We STILL think there may be an even earlier example out there somewhere 👀 the search will continue.
But for now…
Here’s what you dug up so far ⛏️

Only two remain… ✨
And you’re looking at both 👀
This “Trust Your Instincts” Star Wars 1979 bootleg is rarer than a kyber crystal in the wild 💎—not just because of age or design, but because most of them were never meant to survive.
This piece traces back to Ira Keeler—ILM artist and part of the team behind the iconic Biker Scout helmet in Return of the Jedi. At the height of bootleg Star Wars merch, pieces like this were pulled from circulation. The story goes that in 1979, George Lucas had batches of these shirts confiscated and sent to ILM… not as collectibles, but to be destroyed, via slow, painful deaths as shop rags.
And that’s exactly what they became.
Used. Wiped. Gone to the dark side 🛠️
Which makes this pair almost impossible.
Ira trusted his instincts—strong with the Force, you might say—and kept one clean, storing it away for decades. After his passing in 2021, his son Shawn rediscovered it—alongside a second from the same run, this one fully used as intended, covered in paint, grease, and the marks of the workshop floor.
Same shirt. Same origin.
Two different fates.
One is fully preserved.
One lives with ILM battle scars.
A true Force-sensitive save ⚡
The kind of find you don’t see in this galaxy anymore.
RIP Ira Keeler 🕊️

80s Red Hot Chili Peppers ‘Bad Otis’ tee
Confirmed legit by @badotislinkart himself, through @defunkd . This one came from the original owner.
At first, there were some pretty major inconsistencies compared to known authentic examples - no copyright date, different colours, and details showing up where they typically shouldn’t. Authentic versions also tend to be printed on a Hanes tags, which added to the doubt.
Despite all that, there was one key detail pointing the other way, the blank it was printed on. I hadn’t come across a belton tag before, but after digging a bit deeper, I found an old Defunkd interview where Bad Otis mentioned Belton blanks were actually among his favourites to print on. A few days later, he confirmed the shirt was as real as it gets, despite all the inconsistencies.
In a market where details like this usually raise red flags, it’s nice when one goes the other way.
Big thanks to Defunkd for helping piece it together, and to Bad Otis for producing such a crazy shirt.
👕 A wild authentication… 🌀
This rare vintage @bjork tee surfaced out of the Netherlands, dating back to the 90s—and yeah, it had even seasoned collectors scratching their heads 🤔
At first glance, it felt too obscure. Questions popped up (as they should): Is it legit? Why haven’t we seen this before?
But here’s where it gets good…
She came through with receipts 📸—actual developed Kodak prints with “’94” stamped on the back, showing her wearing the shirt back in the day.
And to clear up any suspicion that the back of the photo could have been a different photo, she even took the time to film a video proving it’s the same. 📹
That level of patience and transparency? Next level. Huge thank you to her for sticking with us through the process 🙏
In an era where people go to great lengths to pass off fakes, every detail matters. Every thread, every story, every timestamp.
And sometimes… you uncover something truly special ✨
