- @defortyfive started as a rebuttal to my bad retail experiences. My eccentric self always caught the gaze of “posh” retail establishments as a possible delinquent. Granted I was a rebel, but not of the sorts they profile me to be.
I needed to create a space that accommodated diversity in a true sense. Having my comrades in arts by my side, it was an attainable dream.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago, I through De FortyFive partnered with “ The Feed Yourself Initiatives “ to bring to bare the first Clothing swap. This is created and lead by the talented Araba Ankuma.
First of many to hopefully prove the possibility of sustainable practices as viable economic pathways.

I got this book in Dakar in 2019. I felt like an imposter. My son tossed it around a few times and I finally read on Thursday, 8 times quietly. It moved me and thought to read it loudly to anyone interested.

Nunya Signet Ring
Nunya means knowledge for the Anlo Ewe tribe, which is where the symbols on the shank of this ring are from. On the head sits the iconic bird symbol of the Asantes known as Sankofa. It is in the marriage of these two nations that the name is derived.
The Nunya Elevated Ring is a part of a collection of jewelry called Nu-Ga Treasures; cast using centuries-old brass casting techniques. These rings are unisex.

It is today! As a lifestyle and style space, pieces are not isolated from ones living. This is one of our non verbal visual stories of this collaboration using the first track off @pureakan new album “Nyame Mma”. The song title “Agyapadeɛ" (Inheritance) talks about the search for our inheritance in all the wrong places because of our lost connection to our roots. As complex as the conversation is, the song reminds us to seek cultural perspective even in a contemporary landscape.

It’s amazing where journeys take us as a community. We are excited to be partners with @pureakan on this journey of careful sound curation and thoughtful engagement. When he told Daniel Mawuli Quist, (creative director) of our lifestyle space about memorabilia for his (ABUSUA) family, we knew gears had shifted in our relationship. The result is simple, elegant and thoughtful. We used organic cotton t-shirts and limited quantity to convey our devotion to reducing our carbon footprint. We are not perfect but we can do our best. We deliver the shirts in bio degradable package in brown paper envelops. We took the queue from @oseiduro . All we can do is strive to be better. We commend Pure Akan for deciding to take the narrow road in building a community to call family.
