We just received a great review from the other side of the globe. Thank you
@takuyayoshikawa56 🥂:
"DEFECTO, a hot metal band representing Denmark alongside bands like Volbeat, debuted in 2016 and even toured Japan the following year. Their second album NEMESIS (released in 2018) was purchased on impulse, but its dark and serious worldview combined with catchy vocal melodies, heavy and solid rhythms, and technical twin-guitar work made it an album I kept replaying again and again.
Their next work, DUALITY, was not released domestically in Japan, but it further deepened the strengths of the previous album’s sales appeal, broadened stylistic elements slightly, and refined emotionally resonant melodies. However, it ended up being released in 2020 during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, which meant the band had few opportunities to make a visible impact through live activities.
The band’s central figure, multi-instrumentalist Nicklas Sonne (vocals & guitar in this band), remained active during this period, through projects such as Aries Descendant as well as releasing solo albums where he continued to build his experience.
Then, the new DEFECTO album released last October — their first in five years — retains the band’s established worldview while intentionally drawing deeper into the raw extremity and rough edges that had remained in earlier works. The result is a much more cohesive and refined sound, clearly demonstrating their growth.
The once heavy, dark keyboard arrangements have become more subtle, while complex and technical guitar riffs and flashy solos run wild over unique rhythmic patterns, creating a powerful melodic-power-metal sense of momentum. Nicklas’s passionate intensity and delicate expressiveness as a vocalist are further enhanced, and the melodies have evolved into something even catchier. The album is packed with exciting elements that invite repeated listening, revealing new discoveries each time — making it a true “grower," with an implementation of progressive elements that adds as perfect seasoning within the compositions. Personally, this is a major favorite."
