Defeated Decade

No words can describe how we truly feel after last Friday, but here's us trying anyway. Thank you. Thank you so much. For showing us what community, friendship, spirit and hardcore are all about. We may be done with this band, but we will never forget all the support that we received from our fellow bands, scene members, family and all other friends and followers. It was insanely moving to speak with all of you and hear your stories of how our band or hardcore in general affected you in some way. We are honored and moved to have been a part of that. A special thank you goes out to our friends in @coldgripnl , @bloodofkingshc and @hometowncrewband These bands showed us once again that there really is no scene quite like Weert City Hardcore. For such a small town to have such a dedicated and real hardcore movement is extraordinary, and we will continue to support and cherish what we have built up over this past decade. We encourage all of you to do the same, not just in Weert, but at your local scene, wherever it may be. Show up. be there for the bands, for your friends, listen to their music, buy the merch. All the big bands started small so help eachother out! And never forget that hardcore music, and local music in general, is going through a tough time right now. Local venues are hesitant to book shows, fearing low turnouts and financial losses. Therefore, it can sometimes be hard to find a place that is accepting to music like ours. So, always support places like @cafezigzagweert , who have consistently given a home to scenes like ours. And finally, don't forget to look out for those on the fringes of our community. Be accepting to new members. Encourage a new generation to start bands and become a part of our scene. Be intolerant to hate, toxicity, racism, fascism, sexism and phobia against LGTBTQ+. Educate others, show them that this is not the way we work in our community. Support artists, photographers (like René Bradwolff who took these incredible pictures of our final show!) bookers, promoters, volunteers and all others who work to keep this scene alive! After 10 years, we're calling it quits. Final show on 06-01. Read below for more info. We have decided together that after 10 years, we can no longer sustain this band with the kind of energy and passion that it needs. Therefore, Defeated Decade is going to disband. There is no animosity between us, this was a collective decision. When we started this band 10 years ago as teenagers we had no clue what we were doing, where DD would take us. Over the years we've played many shows all over the place and met countless new friends. We would not trade the memories we made for anything in the world. To all of you who supported us through all of this craziness and motivated us to keep going: thank you so much. We appreciate every bit of support we've ever received, from kind words, to showing up, singing along, moshing, to buying merch or giving us a place to sleep. It was all so amazing. We are working on three final songs that we want to release before the end of the year. Also, we are organizing a final show on 06-01-2023 at Café Zig Zag in Weert. We hope to see you all there! Focus was written about my mental health struggles that I had early on when we were in this band. Even when it seems there's no way forward, music and friendship can offer ways out of the darkest places in your mind. Talking to the right people and channeling my frustrations into songs like this one helped me get my life back on track. We are really pleased with how this song has come out. Alex laid down some sick vocal lines for this one as well. Thanks buddy! ❤ 2. I've been a teacher for a few years now. I wrote Hanging by a Thread about the students that used to stay behind at school because they never wanted to go home. They never wanted to face the horrible reality that waited for them there. It sucks to feel like you're on the sideline and not really able to help, except by offering the usual words of encouragement that they heard a million times. If you've ever been in a similar situation, or maybe you used to be one of those kids: know that you are not alone, there are people who genuinely care! 3. Valleys is an unusual song for us, because it is older than the other two. We decided to record it anyway because it has always been special to us. It was written somewhere in 2013, maybe 2014, so early on in DD's lifespan. It is about the same mental health issues that Focus adresses. However, Valleys was written in a much more melodic style of hardcore that we don't usually play. Since then, it's been on and off the setlist. One more day of 2022 to go. One more week to go until our final show at @cafezigzagweert on 06-01-2023. We will be sharing the stage with three bands, and we made the decision to include these three specific bands for a reason. Firstly, @coldgripnl will open the show. This wonderful group of guys plays a unique style of melodic hardcore that still has very firm hardcore roots. Their set is absolutely feral! Not something you want to miss. On top of that, they are a fantastic set of individuals and great, great friends of ours. They recently finished their first short tour and it was a great succes, so despite all the ups and downs that are part of being in a band, they surely have a great future ahead of them! Secondly, @bloodofkingshc will bring their hard hitting eurocore. It's fair to say that Defeated Decade would never have had the start it had without these guys. From the moment that we remotely looked like a band they supported us by letting us play shows with them, teaching us what it was like to play live and be a part of the hardcore scene. All the bands from Weert owe a great deal to them and we look forward to thanking them for all they've done for us and weert HC. These guys are the real deal! And finally, @hometowncrewband play just before us. They started a few years after us. From the first few months it was clear that this band was doing things differently. Their drive, work ethic, spirit, were (and honestly still are) second to none. And this has brought them further than any other Weert HC band has ever gone. We are immensely proud of what they have achieved. And the end is not in sight. Honored to count them amongst our friends as well. Please be there early on 06-01-2023 to support al the bands.
