So in Kalabari culture, they can actually “buy your mouth”… and it’s not what you think 😂😂😂 let me break it down,
During Bibife, the groom’s family brings a FULL table of food to the bride’s family , this is what they call “buying the mouth” 😭
It’s not bribery o, it’s a cultural way of showing respect, provision, and asking for acceptance . What you’ll usually see on the table:
* Full goat
* Yam
* Fresh/dry fish
* Seafood
* Palm oil
* Onunu ( boiled yam and overripe plantain )
* Fisherman soup
* Odu Fulo (palm oil fish stew)
* Bole & roasted fish
* Pepper soup
* Swallows (garri, fufu, etc.)
Basically… they’re saying:
“You will not go hungry in our house” 😌
