I’m so overjoyed I finally get to share one of my favorite projects of 2023. I had the honor of working on @tarajiphenson ‘s first children’s book, “You Can Be a Good Friend, no matter what”. The story is meant to help all those quirky lil kids, who march to their own beat, learn to embrace their special attributes as they venture out to embrace others and make friends! As February comes to a close, I decided to touch up this piece I’d abandoned years ago. I started it in a rather broken place and it was hard to finish, but it feels so great to look at it now with admiration and clarity, distanced from the situations that inspired it. It takes time, and it can be hard to see in the midst of it, but I see a lot of the roses growing within me, and all around me in my friends. 💖 I love blooming with all of you 🌹✨

“Canary” 💛 I finished this a couple weeks ago and have kinda kept it for myself since posting here again has felt so strange in this social climate. Though, I feel I reached a sort of zen-state while painting this that I hadn’t felt in a really long while. I got blissfully lost sculpting all of these little curls, and overall love how “ukiyo-e” the end result came to be.
