Hope you had a wonderful weekend and are feeling amazing vibes! We’re sending you good energy from everywhere as we celebrate a very special milestone — Deep House Tulum is five years strong. A lot of hard work and passion has gone into this project and today, for our 100th episode, we are thrilled to present the legendary Hólmar from Iceland 🇮🇸.
Born in the highlands of Iceland and raised by human parents after his elvish mother passed at birth, Hólmar’s early summers spent swimming in cold mountain lakes revealed his natural talent, catching the eye of Iceland’s national synchronized swimming coach. He trained for the Olympics until an injury ended his professional swimming career, leading him to form the Scandinavian dance troupe “Black Widows”.
It was through music for their shows that Hólmar discovered his true passion. After moving to New York, he threw iconic parties, co-founded Crack & Speed Records, and performed as part of Mr. Negative & The Spencer Filipsson Experience. He later teamed with Greg Oreck to form “Thugfucker” and “Disco Gnome”, breaking onto the international scene via Life and Death Records alongside Tale of Us and DJ Tennis.
Hólmar has since explored numerous collaborations, including Lovestruckk, Theory of Light, The Birds Fly South, and the DJ collective Twisted Sisterz. In 2018, he launched his solo career while reviving impromptu performances of the Black Widows, merging his love of choreography and music.

🚨Coming soon… I was honored to be asked to create a podcast for the 100th episode of @deephousetulum . This is a major milestone and a reflection of a community that has given so much to our scene.
Since 2011, it’s been a yearly pilgrimage for me. Countless sunrises and sunsets, parties, and moments that now feel like one beautiful blur.
It’s hard to choose just one… so I won’t. I hold onto the feeling of the entire journey and the people I’ve shared it with.
This mix will be a smorgasbord of mostly other people’s music, with some added sprinkles from my laboratory here in Brooklyn.
