Today’s @poetsorg Poem-A-Day is this one from me.
And while I’m trying very hard to play it cool, let it be known that I did not think this was even in the realm of possibilities for me. Thank you to @dlameris for curating, placing this poem in the company of so much beauty and for expanding that realm for me!

Reposting from @onlypoemsmag for that last line (with much love and gratitude to their editors). Please read the full feature on their website, where Diagnosis is Poem of The Month for September. ✨

This poem is still #WIP but it goes out to all the women who are still cutting open their hearts and offering their best pieces to others.

What happens when a failed actor slips through a mirror… and lands in a Mumbai where he’s already a star?
For Brunch & Books #11, we’re diving into Slow Burn with Amal Singh — a genre-bending story of fame, ambition, identity, and the dangerous seduction of becoming the version of yourself the world finally loves. Set in an inverted Mumbai full of doubles, mirrors, and impossible choices, the novel blends literary fantasy with the emotional chaos of wanting more from life.
If you like speculative fiction with heart, stories about cities that feel alive, or books that ask uncomfortable questions about success and selfhood — this one’s for you.
And honestly, “fame is also a drug” might be one of the most haunting premises for a discussion brunch. ☕📚
See you at Bombay Sweet Shop, Oshiwara.

Reread one of my favourites from last year. @alihazelwood just keeps getting better and better. She describes this one as an erotic romance, which it is, but it’s the language she uses to unpack desire itself that hit me in the gut more than the actual sex. Also a genius parallel in there that ties intimacy issues with challenges around food insecurity, desire with hunger. #bookstagram
I love reading poems out loud and haven’t done one in a while. This is Prayer by Kunjana Parashar, from her excellent collection of poems They Gather Around Me, The Animals @holy.squid

Late Vishu Ashamsakal… and a #WIP poem that made me text my husband back in 2024 and go… “Um what do you think of the name Vishu?”
