I’ve always been a fan of Janet Jackson and always wanted to do a Janet homage drag performance when I first started drag 15+ years ago but something never felt right. Fast forward to 2024 the time was right. I am more knowledgeable, educated in my life and the life experiences were had… it was time. The 7th Anniversary of
@dragmetobrunch_carrienation was upon us but doing a solo Janet performance wasn’t vibing in my thought process. I wanted to push myself as an artist, a performer and do what I’m not used to, perform with friends but at the same time keep it “Dee Dee” but give it Janet. Three rehearsals with new dance friends, one rehearsal on the stage three hours before the show, 90 minute nap the night before trying to finish costumes (but at the same time keep up with day job work, personal life and doggy parenting duties) and this performance became more than what I envisioned! My journey for this number was encompassed in 9.5 minutes. The road to wanting to do a Janet number by myself, collabing with the talented
@official_jrobs on choreography and creative, to meeting new dance friends who I will call family for life to having the number end, to my surprise, with a surprise appearance by my drag family, my rocks, my ride or dies
