Review of advance copy.
It’s 1938, and at the final evening meal in their family home, Bonsall Hall, the Hartford sisters, and their husbands, are interrupted by a guest.
When the guest is found dead the following day, Katherine Hartford, the eldest sister, asks Audrey Hartford, the youngest sister, to look into the matter.
Audrey turns to her friend, Douglas Jay, a journalist, for help. The two soon find themselves embroiled in a mystery that sees Audrey heading off to Germany, following clues left behind by their visitor.
With the sisters’ loyalties all heading in different directions, can they remain loyal to each other, as well as their country.
This is an entertaining tale with a good plot. I enjoyed getting to know the sisters, with the story focusing more on Audrey than the others.
There were some twists along the way that I didn’t expect at all. A gripping and enjoyable read.
I liked Audrey’s character, it was good to see the change in her, and how she matured in her ways over the timeline.
