I’m on @zooloosbooktours today for #OfSisters&Spitfires by #FrankFrancis @bloodhound.books Review of advance copy. It’s 1938, and at the final evening meal in their family home, Bonsall Hall, the Hartford sisters, and their husbands, are interrupted by a guest. When the guest is found dead the following day, Katherine Hartford, the eldest sister, asks Audrey Hartford, the youngest sister, to look into the matter. Audrey turns to her friend, Douglas Jay, a journalist, for help. The two soon find themselves embroiled in a mystery that sees Audrey heading off to Germany, following clues left behind by their visitor. With the sisters’ loyalties all heading in different directions, can they remain loyal to each other, as well as their country. This is an entertaining tale with a good plot. I enjoyed getting to know the sisters, with the story focusing more on Audrey than the others. There were some twists along the way that I didn’t expect at all. A gripping and enjoyable read. I liked Audrey’s character, it was good to see the change in her, and how she matured in her ways over the timeline.

I’m on @zooloosbooktours today for #TheLandlady by @janeejamesauthor Review of advance copy. Molly and her young daughter, Lily, move to a rented property on a farm after staying in a refuge for a while. Her landlady, Mrs Skinner, seems nice enough, but will things change when Molly breaks her one rule - no male visitors? As time goes by, Molly realises that not all is as it seems, especially Mrs Skinner! Just what did happen to the previous tenant? This was an intriguing story that was dark and tense at times. I liked Molly and Lily’s characters, although I felt that Molly was rather naive at times. I enjoyed the twists in the story as I didn’t see them coming at all!

Here is my ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ review of A Devil’s Share by @tgreidbooks When distillery guide, Hamish Durie, is poisoned whilst doing a guided tour, the case leads DCI Bone and the team down many long and winding roads. With sibling rivalry and drug distribution featuring at the heart of the investigations, the team have a dangerous case to deal with, but can they come out of it unscathed? This is the eighth book in this outstanding series and I loved being back with the team again. The seriousness of the cases, as well as the humour, usually concerning Mullens, works well. The characters are relatable and the banter does make me laugh out loud. Although I’m not sure that my brain will ever get over the image in my head of Mullens in Lycra! I cannot wait for book 9, Dirt Road Dead, which is out very soon.

I’m on @bookouture Books-On-Tour today for The Lady At The Lodging House by @natalie.meg.evans Review of advance copy from the publisher. This is book three in the series, and we are back with Betony, Grace and Jess in London during World War Two. When Betony loses her modelling job, she has to sell her beautiful gowns to help pay for her rent and food. Now having to work in a factory, she doesn’t want anyone to know, especially her father, as Betony comes from a life of wealth and comfort, and her father would not be happy with her choices. When her father commands she must go home, Betony knows she must stand up to him and will stop at nothing to ensure that she can stay in London with her friends, and also her boyfriend, Canadian pilot, Winter Macpherson. I do love the female characters in this series, they are all bright and fun girls, doing whatever is needed to get through the tough times of war. Always there for each other, as well as anyone else who needs help. It is a story of friendship, love and bravery. Not just bravery due to the war going on around them, but bravery to stand up and fight for their rights, the rights of women. A gripping page-turner that I could not put down, I was invested from the start.
