Art is an exploratory experience and @dee.bee.darling ’s does just that! Come get up close and personal with Dakari Butler’s work March 14 at Girl Culture! 💖🫟
“Traditionally, to interact with art, you simply look at the piece. Even just standing too close will get you scolded by a gallery attendant. Artwork is often marked with a red line on the floor, inciting a warning and urging others not to come near. I strive to turn this idea on its head, breaking free from the conventions of traditional art and allowing viewers to touch the artwork.”

We are excited to introduce Dakari Butler, one of The Eclectika's gallery assistant members!
Dakari Butler is a Visual artist based in her hometown of Dallas, TX. She received a Bachelors in Fine Arts with a concentration in Drawing and Painting, and a minor in Art History. Dakari has shown her artwork at the plush gallery, 500x, and The Greater Denton Arts council, and Arts Fort Worth. She is currently one of sixteen artists selected to be a part of Cedars Union Cohort 4.
Dakari Butler is an artist that uses everyday ordinary objects such as: sinks, toilets, china cabinets, thrifted glassware, matches, kids toys, and kitschy mass-produced crafting materials to create fantastical and surreal works of art. Her pieces are often described as joyful, bold, colorful. There is an element of childlike play present in every piece Dakari creates. She often mixes traditional art practices with fiber techniques. She often manipulates fabric into dynamic shapes and patterns, embroidering intricate lines of thread, and embellishing pieces with beadwork. Sewing is an integral part of Butler’s practice. “It's a craft that I learned from my mom, she learned from her mom, and her mom learned from hers, and so on and so forth,” said Butler. This use of various fiber techniques enables the artist to create pieces that are intricate in both detail and texture.
I am excited to announce my first solo show at Arts Fort Worth 🎉 “Touch me, I Dare You” is an interactive exhibition that invites viewers to touch every piece. It will be up until the 26th of this month. Make sure to drop by and see it if you have the time:)

The book explores different textures associated with roughness. The book is made with canvas and burlap material, cardboard, sandpaper, twine, and thread. For this book I primarily focused on using fabric manipulation tactics to create the various textures.
