On the last day of this year’s Miami Art Week, join our census team in conversation with Dr. Scotney Evan’s as we delve into the history behind the data initiative and discuss how the project reflects Miami’s artist community. Moderated by Heike Dempster, we will consider how data can be channeled to identify the needs of local artists, tell our stories, and visualize strategies for positive change. Part of Untitled Art’s podcast series, the conversation will be listenable afterwards. #miamiartistcensus

Hey! Come move with me in the park if you are in Brooklyn the next few weeks. I'm hosting a lil experimental series that combines the movement techniques I have been learning and integrating into a personal practice over the past few years. Each class will be slightly different but follows the same structure: beginning with a full body warm-up, opening into a self-led movement improv with prompts, and ending with a group reflection. I have been wanting to share this with others for a while, so I hope you can make it! Reach out if you have any questions :) ✨🤸🍃💧🍉 Info: Free Movement Series (WiP) Sundays Sept. 29, Oct. 6, and Oct. 13 1pm - 2:15pm Meet @ Prospect Park Waterfall Bring a blanket A work-in-progress movement class that blends somatics, butoh, alexander technique, trauma-informed yoga, deep listening and nature Suggested donation of $20 50% of any proceeds will go to families in Gaza (Image Description: Blossoming pumpkin squash vines climb and layer over a verdant lower eastside garden. Back-dropped by a tree-lined alley of walk-ups on a bright almost-autumn afternoon. There are two sketched figures bending into a curve backwards at the knees, and they are a highlighter blue and neon purple color, respectfully. They may be holding bags over their shoulders, or are humongous drops of water slowly dripping out their necks? They are encased by an erratic white squiggle-line border, and between them is the information for the event.)

It’s important the community knows what’s happening in Miami with censorship around political artwork and artists that support Palestine. Please read the letter to understand context and consider signing! *READ THE FULL LETTER & SIGN HERE: ooliteartsaccountability.wordpress.com The Oolite Arts Board of Directors, led by Board Chair Marie Elena Angulo, committed an act of censorship, swiftly removing queer first generation Vietnamese American artist Vũ Hoàng Khánh Nguyên’s installation in Miami Beach without due process. This piece was made as an expression of solidarity with Palestine and other oppressed people of the world. We come together as South Florida artists, creatives, and art workers in solidarity with our colleague and friend to amplify their concerns with mutual demands. We are disturbed by Oolite Arts’ censorship of Vũ’s work, their total lack of transparency, and the dangerous precedent it sets for art organizations like Oolite Arts, institutions claiming to be led by the needs of artists. Sign and join us in demanding transparency, consistency, policy review, disclosure, reorganization, dialogue and engagement from Oolite Arts, especially in the face of concurrent genocides across the globe.

“VOCAL EXERCISE #1” ; photo documentation of performance ; KUNST ; 2024 . . “VOCAL EXERCISE #1” was a site-specific performance that imagined queer relationships through the metaphor of “being” as a strangler fig. in the shadow of a specimen KUNST invokes a hybrid creature of moss come to life to perform this ritual catharsis. surrounded by a chorus of performers, some reciting poetry waxing on the metaphor, others asked to spontaneously count as a way of transforming time into a kind of materiality, the performance is nested in a soundscape that appropriates the cut-up collage methodology of Brion Gysins “Pistol Poem” to imagine the act of being interpolated. the work of the exercise invokes a cacophony expressing the chaos and naivety of emergent queer relationships; relationships that often characterize queer folks’ first experiences of being in love with each other. . . thank you so much to @dedcooter for imagining the broader work this piece was situated in, KIN. KIN is a site-specific drag and poetry performance project that explores the relationship between queer bodies, chosen families, and the natural landscape of Miami. . thank you to @omiamifestival for supporting the performance.

KIN reminded us that home is where we grow. 🌱Created by Writer & Director Harmony Honig (@dedcooter ), KIN explored the intricate connections between queer ecosystems, chosen families, and Miami’s landscape. Throughout the performance drag artists, poets, musicians, and interdisciplinary artists drew parallels between the unique characteristics of plant ecosystems and the diverse expressions of non-nuclear families. We’re grateful to our cast of performers and our friends at the @miamibeachgarden for a magical evening of queer expression. It’s an honor to stand behind this second installment of Drag Poetry Slam, a testament to Miami’s vibrant queer community. The second iteration weaved narratives of healing, refuge, and transformation with stories of drag houses, mutual aid, and trees as community builders. 🌱 Photos by @chantal_lawrie View more photos at our #linkinbio
