Frankston rock ânâ rollers Stimpies are tripping out and touching down on the âPlanet Of Loveâ for this weekâs heart-eyed Feature Video.
Directed by past band collaborator Declann Shields, âPlanet Of Loveâ is, in the words of the band, âTHE FULL PACKAGE. THIS IS PURE HUMAN ART FOR PURE HUMAN ENJOYMENT. A CULMINATION OF HOURS UPON HOURS OF HARD WORKâ. The pastel-hued, tricked out clip utilises classic visual effects, clever cinematography and an army of eager extras to realise a creative vision that Declan says was clear from the very start.
âThey [Stimpies] wanted it to be dirty, grungy and a bit rough around the edgesâ, he explains. âThey wanted classic iconography like an old Aussie pub, with visuals that complimented the themes of love throughout the song. What we landed on is a bandâs psychedelic trip into a love-bombed old joint, where everyone (and their dog) is riding the same kaleidoscopic wave.â
The clip is shot entirely on Super 8 film for truly inimitable visual flair. As Declann explains it, âin a world of emulation nothing stands out more than the real thing. I spoke to my cinematographer and co-producer Mitchell Scott and we began going over the logistics of it all, preparing how weâd be able to shoot this format and embrace its limitations to achieve the look we wanted. We did some camera tests with my dadâs old Ford Falcon and from that point there was no turning back. We loved it, and the band did too.â
âWorking with Dec and the crew on this one has been absolutely brilliantâ says the band. âHe turned an incredibly intricate, detailed, and chaotic shoot into a walk in the park. This has been one of the most enjoyable projects to see through from start to finish. We knew coming in hot this year that it was a strong goal of ours to create a powerful visual presence. Declann nailed that.â
