 LARRY ACHIAMPONG
screening as part of Décalé this Friday | 23.05.25 @standalone_london
Larry Achiampong’s solo and collaborative projects employ imagery, aural and visual archives, live performance and sound to explore ideas surrounding class, cross-cultural and post-digital identity. With works that examine his communal and personal heritage – in particular, the intersection between pop culture and the postcolonial position, Achiampong crate-digs the vaults of history. These investigations examine constructions of ‘the self’ by splicing the audible and visual materials of personal and interpersonal archives, offering multiple perspectives that reveal entrenched socio-political contradictions in contemporary society. For Décalé, Larry Achiampong will screen 'Ph03nix Rising: The 3rd Son', a short film and coming of age story that explores how Achiampong shaped his identity from the media and video games that he and his brother consumed. @larryachiampong Image: still from 'Ph03nix Rising: The 3rd Son' courtesy of @luxmovingimage @decaledecaledecale is programmed by @leilaarenou @chooclytan @kadeemoak

LAILA MAJID & LOUIS BLUE NEWBY
screening as part of Décalé | 23.05.25 @standalone_london

Laila Majid and Louis Blue Newby’s shared practice is a space for the artist duo to explore the way images gain meaning through being shared and distributed between individuals both privately and through social media and the public sphere. The duo collate images from many sources, both printed and online that range from magazines, porn sites, online forums and comics. The source images are mostly fast-moving and disposable, part of the constant flow of visual information that surrounds us. Majid and Newby’s practice slows these images down by destabilizing or de-anchoring the image through processes such as scanning, drawing and layering. For Décalé, Laila Majid and Louis Blue Newby will screen ‘south florida sky', a film that reimagines the comic hero Swamp Thing through animation and neural network imagery, here read as a vessel for envisaging new and radical modes of collectivity. Laila Majid and Louis Blue Newby are represented by Niru Ratnam Gallery. @helloo0o0o0oo0oo0oooo00o00o0o @louisnewby @niruratnamgallery Image: still from 'south florida sky' courtesy of Niru Ratnam Gallery. @decaledecaledecale is programmed by @leilaarenou @chooclytan @kadeemoak

 WILLOW SWAN & ELLIS BERWICK
performing as part of Décalé | 23.05.25 @standalone_london

Willow Swan (they/them) is a sound artist based in London. Their work blends experimental organ music, field recordings, and electronic textures to create immersive sonic environments rooted in memory, identity, and ritual. Drawing on a multidisciplinary background and continuing to explore the boundaries in sound. Ellis Berwick (he/him) is an artist, engineer and musician from London (UK), who unites all three disciplines in his sculptural practise. Inspired by the effect of monumental public sculpture, simultaneously ignored and mythologised, Berwick works with heritage musical instrument parts through assemblage and automation to explore their enduring symbolic and sonic power.
For Décalé, Willow and Ellis will present a sonic performance using self-made organs, which have previously been showcased at venues including the ICA and the Teat Dept Foundry Show.
