My top 5 FA’s of 2025: 5. TOTAL RESET: Screen grab from a video that @iamzacht in the spring. @naturalstatepublishing found a sick no hand’s knee bar about where I’m at in this pic and down graded it despite saying it has one of the coolest cruxes in AR. 4: THE GALLERY: The easiest on the short list but makes it because of the awesome time I had bolting it with @dano_dad , the incredible sculpted holds, sustained quality rock and movement. @climbingwebbs calls it one of the best of the grade and style in the state. 3: IRONMAN: I posted the send video but here is a poorly cropped version of @karenklane ‘s shot of me figuring out how to used the slopiest hold I’ve ever grabbed. I recently bolted an independent start that will add 30-40 more feet of difficult climbing. 2: NATURAL SELECTION: It could have been #1 as it is exactly the type of climbing I want to be doing: Steep, bullet, featured, sustained, aesthetic and in good position. I was so psyched to film @arghmadey on a 2nd ascent of this future classic. 1: EYE OF THE BEHOLDER: Priority numero uno from 2025. Bolted 10/2024, I trained for about 45 days specifically (I set a simulator in the gym) for this Gold Standard of a line. Classic power endurance rig at 25 degrees, boulder problem -> jug (3x). I was very fortunate to same-day-send as @traddishman on his All-Time rig (The Curse) with the CW crew. Thanks @sawyer.maxwell for the endless psych and catch. Hopefully in the near future I will post some of the content I have back logged.

Stone Hunters: On 9/13/24, around noon, I began the 7 mile bushwhack around the north point of Ricketts Mt. It took me two hours to hike the two miles before I rested under a grey over hang to eat my lunch. Strewn across the boulders were a couple dozen, long, roughly cut planks that looked hundreds of years old. I had just covered all the west facing terrain on this part of the mountain, and had seen a few decent walls that could be suitable for good climbing. The next section was a small northwest facing bluff, that looked negligible on my map. I hadn’t even dropped a 📍 past this point. I looked to my right and it seemed as if the jungle had fully taken over the mountainside. Did I really want to keep bushwhacking to what felt like the middle of nowhere? It started to rain. I debated turning back as I felt my chances dwindling. As I finished my sandwich, I thought to myself, there’s no way in hell I came all the way out here to potentially miss something. I knew it was unlikely, but I stood up anyway and continued the hunt.

Camera at the crag pt. 2 Massive thanks to @deca_setter for bringing me out and sharing the process of route setting with me. So cool to see the process from an idea of a line to a final bolted route. The future of Arkansas climbing is bright with Uli involved!

We are stoked to have been invited to help rebolt at Mt. Magazine this weekend! Massive shout outs to Mitchell Allen with Arkansas Parks and Recreation Foundation, Chase Webb, and Judith Brown for organizing and managing the meetup. The group was able to get nearly 20 routes and anchors updated with new bolts where needed and mussy hooks.
