I was told at 5pm tents were at the library where the city just put up $790K fence a move that was to drive encampments and homeless residents off the outdoor terrace . I had to see for myself, as I drove by tonight, I took these photos outside the Billie Jean King Library. Tents are still there. Same conditions. Same problem. The City spent $790,000 on a fence to move the encampments maybe 10ft away. This is exactly what people are fed up with. This isn’t progress. It’s failure. We don’t have a revenue problem in Long Beach...We have a common sense problem!!! If $790K goes out the door and nothing changes on the ground, that’s not leadership, that’s fiscal mismanagement. I was at the LB Democratic Club endorsement meeting when our current councilperson was asked to explain the reasoning behind the fence and how the community benefits. The answer? So librarians and families can use the outdoor patio again. To let the children take the library back and enjoy the outside patio. Everyone wants safe spaces for families. But let’s be honest, a fence doesn’t solve the underlying issue. It just hides it but did it really hide it...apparently not. And yet…endorsement secured. This is exactly why endorsements don’t equal results. We need real solutions: Accountability for every dollar spent, enforcement of the laws already on the books, a system that actually gets people into shelters, treatment and permanent housing. Let your voice speak up for how you feel about this fence. VOTE for change, VOTE for common sense, VOTE for Deb Kahookele, City Council District 1. DebForLongBeach.com

Last night’s meet and greet fundraiser at Gladstones left me feeling incredibly grateful. It’s hard to find the right words to truly thank everyone who continues to show up, offer support, and believe in this campaign. Each event reminds me just how much our community cares about the future of Long Beach. A very special thank you to our generous hosts and organizers—Joen Garnica, Mark Guillen, Matt Kinley, and Robyn Gordon-Peterson—for bringing everyone together and helping make the evening such a success. Your support, time, and belief in this campaign mean so much to me. I’m continually blown away by the outpouring of encouragement, conversations, and energy. To me, it shows that people are ready for change—real change rooted in listening, accountability, and putting residents first. Thank you again to everyone who attended, donated, volunteered, and shared your thoughts with me. I look forward to seeing you again soon and continuing to have the tough but important conversations about the future of our city. If you’d like to support our people-powered campaign, please visit DebForLongBeach.com to donate or request a yard sign. Every bit of support means the world. #debfordistrict1 #debforlongbeach

This morning, I had the pleasure of attending and volunteering at the annual Wilmore City Community Association Free Community Breakfast held at the historic Bembridge House. I have to say—this is one of my favorite Long Beach traditions. It’s always incredibly well thought out, welcoming, and rooted in what community should be. Neighbors know each other here, they show up for one another, and they continue to invest their time and energy year after year. That kind of connection is special—and it’s exactly what Long Beach is all about. I’m grateful to have been there and to be part of a city filled with people who care so deeply about their neighborhoods. If you’d like to learn more about me and my campaign, please check out my website Debforlongbeach.com Please reach out. I’d love to hear from each and everyone of you.

Campaign Update! I’m truly honored to receive the endorsement of Long Beach 4th District Councilman, Daryl Supernaw. Councilman Supernaw has built a reputation for steady, thoughtful leadership and staying focused on what matters most, serving the community. His trust and support mean a great deal to me. District 1 and District 4 face many of the same challenges from public safety to supporting small businesses and improving quality of life. That shared understanding matters, because the decisions we make don’t stop at district lines. When one area is impacted, it’s felt across our city. This is why collaboration and strong leadership are so important. I’m committed to bringing that same focus and follow through to District 1, and I’m proud to have his confidence, support and endorsement. “Deb Kahookele represents the results-driven leadership our city needs. A tireless advocate for her community, she approaches every issue with a practical, solutions oriented mindset. Deb understands the challenges facing our neighborhoods and small businesses, and she isn’t afraid to take on tough issues to do what is best for our communities. I am confident she will be an outstanding representative for District 1, and I am proud to endorse her.” — Councilman Daryl Supernaw, 4th District
