Albrecht Dürer’s truncated hexahedron is captivating to say the least. Based on an apical elongation of a perfect cube by square root of 2 its measurements hold the square roots of all the numbers from 1to 16 that also appear in the magic square depicted in his engraving ‘Melancolia’. This is the solution of the riddle to which Dürer added his magical touch incorporating the year engraving was made, 1514. It is also simply a very pleasing polyhedron to look at
