Weeks posts
Our second single and animated music video will be released next Friday! That’s a week today! ‘Zombies’ is our first track as a full band and it’s packed full of synthesisers, drum machines and bleeps and bloops! A fictional story about a zombie apocalypse in which they leave you alone because your heads empty apart from flaws and self doubt. Not very tasty!

Swansea in early 2019 was alive in a way that’s hard to describe to anyone who wasn’t there. Venues packed, an abundance of cultural spaces doing what cultural spaces are supposed to do, new artists arriving from directions nobody had anticipated. The city had a genuinely eclectic creative moment happening and it knew it. Sarah Birch walked into that and made a concept album with the Mavron Quartet and Sebastian Goldfinch’s string arrangements that got nominated for the Welsh Music Prize and quietly broke a few hearts. Then the world changed, as it did, and the album got swallowed by everything that followed. Six years on we’ve remastered it, because it deserves to be heard properly and added three tracks written in the same period that never made it onto the original, but fit like they were always meant to be there. If you were there, this will take you back. If you weren’t, this is what you missed. Out now on Bandcamp and all streaming platforms except Spotify, who are not invited. /album/the-ballad-of-peter-and-jane-anniversary-editon Search: The Ballad of Peter and Jane - Anniversary Edition, Sarah Birch. deathmonkey.co.uk

Here are some tracks that inspired me while writing ‘Gloves Up!’ 1. Motion City Soundtrack - Attractive Today This song is hands down my favourite opening track on any record, I wanted to channel some of its optimism and energy when I sat down to write the introductory song for Eyesore The Minotaur as this song was a perfect introduction for me to MCS growing up 2. The Subways - Alright This song carries so much confidence, I wanted this to be the same in my writing. The Lyrics really inspired me to try and push myself to create something like a pep talk 3. Biffy Clyro - Scary Mary The Guitar Tones and dynamics on the first 3 Biffy albums really resonate with me. The intro for Scary Mary particularly stood out to me during the songwriting process for ‘Gloves Up!’ As it’s so delicate but the song builds and builds, I wanted to try making something with similar dynamics to properly introduce the ambitions of Eyesore The Minotaur 4. LCD Soundsystem - New York, I Love You This track really influenced my approach to the opening section of ‘Gloves Up!’ I started with 3 chords played in a similar structure to those in the verse of ‘New York, I Love You’ then I built the Melodys and more intricate guitar instrumentation later on to harmonise and connect the dots 5. Alexisonfire - Happiness By The Kilowatt The juxtaposition, pacing and use of guitar layering of this track inspired me to push myself to experiment with different delays and tremolo effects while writing the clean guitar parts in ‘Gloves Up!’ 6. Death Cab For Cutie - I Will Possess Your Heart Nick Harmer’s bass lines always drive me to think outside the box more when it comes to shaping the rhythm sections of compositions and I Will Possess Your Hearts consistent bass build up inspired me to include a bass track in the first segment of ‘Gloves Up!’ That is consistent, simple and doing something completely separate to that of the other components in the song. ‘Gloves Up!’ Is available to preorder now via bandcamp (link in bio) and will be released via @deathmonkeyrecords on 1st March 2026
