“The Rift of the Sun-chaser” explores how technology silently reshapes our stories and sense of self. Like the Sun-Chaser, we are trapped in myths we no longer recognize, in a world ruled by invisible code.
Across four chapters, he begins to lose himself, becoming part of a legend the machine keeps rewriting—a metaphor for our growing faith in algorithms and shifting ideologies.

The Rift of the Sun-chaser (2025) is an immersive digital video art piece by Wen Chao Wang (@dear_junooo ), Xiutong Qin (@i2i099 ) and Yuchen Li (@liyuchen1503 ) as a part of MA Digital Direction (@rca_digitaldirection )
It shows how technology, in silent ways, reshapes not only our stories but also our sense of self. Like the Sun-Chaser, we are trapped in myths we no longer recognize, in a world ruled by invisible code.
Icarus once flew toward the sun with wings made of wax, only to fall when he flew too high. Kuafu chased the sun with determination but died of thirst before reaching it. These stories would not meet in the past, but in this space shaped by algorithms, they collide and mix. The Sun-Chaser keeps chasing and escaping the sun in this virtual world. Chasing is built into myth. As he passes through each myth, he tries to fix what has been twisted. But each fix causes something else to fall apart.
As he goes through four chapters, he starts to lose himself. He is no longer just a character in a story. He becomes part of a legend that the machine keeps rewriting.
This story is a metaphor for the age of algorithms. The myths are shifting ideologies. We trust algorithms and rely on them more and more.
This was made using Blender, Unreal Engine 5, and Motion Capture recorded at the RCA.

Wenchao Wang completed his undergraduate studies at the China Academy of Art, specializing in the Digital Information Practice Studio, where he deeply analyzed social issues and used them as a source of inspiration for his work. By closely linking visual language with social meaning, he aims to place the importance of people at the core of meaningful artistic creation. He has always been passionate about using digital technology and various media to express visual narratives and push the boundaries of digital design.
He continues to explore topics that intersect with the humanities and society, delving into the deeper meanings behind these themes and examining the complex relationships between people, society, culture, and history.
Create 3D models of characters, scenes, and objects from the mythological story using Blender and UE5.
Additionally, he supports academic research, helping other team members understand and apply cultural semiotics theory.
