“Six Shades of Grey” is here!
This is a song that explores my very personal and painful experience living with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, which I’ve struggled with since the age of 14. I wrote this song during one of my darkest hours struggling with this mental illness. I was in midst of one of the most severe OCD episodes I’ve ever faced. It was an extraordinarily difficult and scary period of my life. I eventually ended up spending three months in a partial hospitalization program (PHP) at an OCD treatment center, and am the better for it. Doing the work to treat OCD feels unbelievably scary and counterintuitive, like you’re actively choosing to march toward your doom, so I really had to be at my lowest—with so much to lose—to take that leap of faith. I’ve come so far, but still it’s a daily struggle. I’ve never spoken about OCD and the impact it’s had on my life publicly before, but with the release of this song—which comes from the depths of OCD suffering—I decided I would speak about it.
I hope this song makes others with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder feel less alone, and to know that there is treatment out there that does work. I also hope it can shine a little light and understanding on this very misunderstood mental illness.
This song was written by me. Produced by @john_nasty_forever and me. The amazing violin playing all over the song is from one of my best friends, @leahzeger . It was mixed by the amazing Chris Kasych @creeksta . And mastered by Nick Townsend.

My new song “See You on the Other Side” is out today!
This is a song that embodies the burning flame of wanderlust and the spirit of adventure. About the journeys were pulled to take, and how they transform us. How we carry those places, faces, and stories with us.

My very talented mixer @creeksta and I took a little tour through his studio, @seahorsesound , the other day, and we had a fun chat about my solo music, his mixing process, and we even reminisced about Deap Vally’s time recording there and shared some fun memories! Coming soon! #behindthescenes #audiomixing #theprocess #inthestudio #newmusic

Zaidee Stavely interviewed me for the @edsource Ed Beat podcast about the Chromebook my kid was given by our school district. Listen to the full interview on the EdSource website.
LAUSD has now joined a lawsuit suing YouTube among others, and yet it is still available on student Chromebooks… Make it make sense.

I’m totally indie. No label or a publishing company behind me at the moment. Your support means the absolute world to me.
The song was inspired by my personal and painful struggle with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. About six months or so after writing this song, I did a three month partial hospitalization program for OCD that was extremely helpful. Exposure and Response Prevention is very scary and unpleasant, but it is effective. I hope this song makes someone else out there feel understood and less alone.
