ABOUT SAGE
Sage Lovell is a passionate artist who is deaf and uses sign language. She/they desire to create more opportunities for Deaf artists, sign language, and Deaf Culture to be featured in the mainstream arts community.
I am a Deaf, Queer, Disabled, and Neurodivergent artist working at the intersection of accessibility, language, and transformation. My art practice is rooted in the expressive power of sign language — not just as a tool for communication, but as a visual poetry that shapes how we tell stories, shift perspectives, and reimagine spaces.
Image Description #1: Self-Portrait of a white nonbinary midsize femme named Sage Lovell. They have long curly dirty blonde hair. They are wearing makeup and black clothing.
I work across performance, video, digital media, and writing to centre Deaf experiences and build connections across communities. My work is deeply informed by lived experienced, ancestral Deaf lineage, and desire to reclaim storytelling spacesthat have historically excluded us. Whether through theatre, advocacy, or visual design, I strive to create work that is accessible, spellbinding, and deeply human.
I believe art is magic — a kind of love spell that invites people to see each other more clearly.
My practice is about inviting others into that space of seeing, signing, and feeling.
