Another great ride today, training for TdR 50 in July 2026. Did a fairly accurately measured 45.5 miles today on the Fox Valley trails and Illinois Prairie Parkway paths as far north as Elgin, east to Wheaton and South to Aurora. Partly sunny, partly cloudy, temps 45-55F.

What a ride! Flooded bike paths, hailstorm and an encounter with a security guard at Fermi Lab. My first planned 40-mile route was closer to 50, me thinks…

TdR 50 training continues! Today’s 30-mile ride takes took me south along the west bank of the Fox River to the south terminus of IL 31 in Oswego, IL. On the return leg, I headed north along the east bank of the river back home to Geneva, IL. Lots of people out biking, walking and running, happy dogs, ducks and geese milling about. Who else has been riding?

Dead Freddie Supports Midwest Bands! Verging on a Punk version of Burlesque, The Rumours packed the front of the house with eager fans at BEER CAN FESTIVAL at Blue Island Beer Company in Blue Island, IL USA on 2 May 2025. Very Punk, even in their risqué stage attire. Per their website blurb: "The Rumours are a rock band based out of Waterloo, IA. The once, straight-up Rock N Roll band finally made-out with Punk -- leaving you beggin' for more with their Kick-In-The-Face look & sound" All that is very true. #therumours #beercandfestival #blueislandbeercompany #blueislandil #chicagopunkrock #punkburlesque

Dead Freddie Supports Local Bands! @deadfreddie Dead Freddie made it out to LOV'D in Lombard, IL USA on 29 March 2026 where a couple of great bands performed while lovers of all things vintage hunted for their treasures. The second band of the day was Royal Son of a Guns, playing their special brand of "Outlaw Acid Western Voodoo-Billy". Especially intriguiging is percussionist Tomoko Aki (@tomoko_rsg ), with her set up of wooden boombox, cowbell, washboard and cooking pot! Dead Freddie has shared more than one bill with RSG in the past and they never disappoint!

Dead Freddie Supports "Local" Bands (if you count Charleston, IL as local)! Made it to the Spring edition of LOV'D on 29 March 2026 in Lombard, IL USA, where a couple of bands entertained everyone on the scene. The first band was The Ex-Bombers, "a delightfully sinister psychedelic blues duo from Illinois known for their primal pop hooks, magnetic performances, and some of the most clever songwriting ever committed to wax. The pair uses an electric 8-string octave bass, a jazz drum set, and a pair of wrecking ball voices to spread their suspiciously resonant blues-meets-garage-meets-jazz sound to stages around the U.S. and turntables around the world." (From band's website.) About half their songs were their own creations while the other half were quirky renditions of unexpected covers. Totally cool!
