For the Loop Studs, I wanted to do something a little different, and when I stumbled across a mysterious pair of small golden pearls in my dealer’s collection, I had to know more.
Most people have never heard of golden akoya pearls, they are quite unusual. The vast majority of natural akoya pearls on the market — the pearls we envision when we think of a classic pearl strand — come in shades of white with pink, green, and silver overtones. I wanted to explore the more unusual shades as well: silver-blue and gold. While blue akoya pearls were initially considered a less valuable byproduct, they are now highly valued for their rarity and cool, oceanic sheen.
The Loop Studs, banded with sapphire, tsavorite, or diamond, are a playful take on the timeless pearl earring.
