I vividly recall the large scale painting in my grandparents living room. A surrealist-cubism painting by my Costa Rican uncle Carlos de la Ossa, depicting two figures sitting intimately entangled holding a red apple. My grandparents’ house was large and long. You would enter on the bottom right side of the house into a tiny living room dedicated to the TV. From there was a staircase that would lead you up to the second floor. Upon ascending the steps you would get clear sight all the way to the other side of the house, straight into the large living room where on the main wall hung the painting. As a kid I would sneak around the house at night and the only source of illumination would be the picture light above the painting. These phantasmic characters would scare me with their insistence of the saturated red apple; in the darkness of night they held sin in the only speck of light.
I can see both sides, red apple and perspective, 2025 16 × 20.1 cm / 6.3 × 7.9 in Glossy chromogenic print on Fuji paper on Dibond, in custom frame made by artist

At this stage in the contact sheets I was afforded the opportunity to go to OxBow. I was part of a course titled «Party as form». It was truly a magical few weeks. I never posted about it, because I don’t think I have fully digested all what that experience and all that followed meant. I will in the future, because it’s been one of the significant parts of the US journey. The place and the experience was one thing but what was truly special was connecting with Alberto and Maria.
