🔔Chan Meditation Center Holds Special Event “Bathing the Buddha, Purifying the Mind” to Share in the Buddha’s Blessings On May 10 (Eastern Time), Dharma Drum Mountain Chan Meditation Center in New York held a special Buddha Bathing Festival event titled “Bathing the Buddha, Purifying the Mind” to celebrate the Buddha’s Birthday. 🙏More than 170 participants from both Eastern and Western backgrounds gathered to take part in the occasion. During the Buddha Bathing Ceremony, the assembly respectfully and wholeheartedly chanted praises to the Three Jewels. Amid the recitation of “Namo ben shi shi jia mo ni fo (homage to our original teacher, Shakyamuni Buddha),” participants paid homage to the Buddha in turn and poured fragrant water over the statue of Prince Siddhartha. Through the ritual of bathing the Buddha, participants purified their bodies and minds, cleansed away afflictions and mental defilements, and made vows to “eliminate all evils, cultivate all virtues, and liberate all sentient beings,” praying to attain the same purity of body and mind as the Buddha. Chan Meditation Center also extended blessings to mothers everywhere for peace and well-being, while praying for world peace, harmony, and the swift attainment of Buddhahood by all beings. The Dharma Drum Mountain Massachusetts Buddhist Association held the “Bathing the Buddha Ceremony—Bathing the Buddha and Purifying the Mind” on May 3rd, from 10 AM to 3 PM. Over 60 people gathered together to commemorate the birthday of Shakyamuni Buddha and to celebrate Mother's Day in advance. During the ceremony, amidst the chanting of “Namo Ben Shi Shakyamuni Buddha (homage to the original teacher, Shakyamuni Buddha)", attendees reverently bathed the Buddha with incense water, followed by the ritual to purify the Buddha’s image. The act of bathing the Buddha with fragrant water symbolized the purification of one’s mind, as well as washing away the afflictions of the mind. At the same time, through making vows and prostrations, participants dedicated themselves to awakening the compassion and wisdom of their true nature, for the benefit of all sentient beings. On the morning of April 17, Venerable Guo Shyan (果賢法師), Managing Director of Dharma Drum Mountain Cultural Center, was interviewed by Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) for a feature on the “relationship between society and religion”. In the interview, Venerable Guo Shyan shared why Buddhism has gained widespread attention in the modern world, as well as Dharma Drum Mountain's unique position within Taiwan's Buddhist community. Journalist Hans Stallmach, who grew up in a Christian cultural context, began exploring Buddhism two years ago. Noticing that Buddhism has drawn increasing global attention in recent years, especially among younger generations, he traveled to Taiwan to learn more about Dharma Drum Mountain’s core ideals, its approach to spreading the Dharma, and how it differs from other Buddhist organizations. Dharma Drum Mountain San Francisco Bay Area Center Successfully Concludes the Qingming Two-day Buddha Name Recitation Retreat for Expressing Gratitude and Eight Precepts Observance Dharma Drum Mountain San Francisco Bay Area Center held the “the Qingming Two-day Buddha Name Recitation Retreat for Expressing Gratitude and Eight Precepts Observance” on March 28 and 29. More than 100 participants, including devotees and volunteers, took part in the event, among them 70 formally observed the Eight Precepts. Through continuous recitation of the Buddha’s name, participants commemorated their ancestors and dedicated the merits to deceased loved ones, friends, and all sentient beings. By observing the Eight Precepts for a full day and night, participants opened a path toward liberation from birth and death and planted wholesome seeds for enlightenment. Following the Vows of Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva: Dharma Drum Mountain Buddhist Association New Jersey Holds Qingming Dharma Ceremony On March 28, 2026, Dharma Drum Mountain Buddhist Association New Jersey held its annual “Qingming Repaying Kindness Kṣitigarbha Dharma Ceremony.” The core significance of the ceremony lies not only in relying on the great compassionate vows of Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva to deliver departed ancestors from suffering, but also in guiding participants—through chanting of the scriptures—to transform their remembrance of the deceased into self-reflection and purification of the mind. In this way, both the living and the deceased benefit, and blessings and wisdom are cultivated together in completeness. The ceremony began at 9:30 a.m., with more than 50 devotees gathering in a solemn atmosphere filled with Buddhist chanting. Venerable Guo Goang (果廣法師), Vice Abbot of Dharma Drum Mountain, presided over the service; Venerable Chang Jue (常覺法師) served as chant leader; and Venerable Guo Jieh (果界法師), who had flown from Taiwan to the United States, served as timekeeper, maintaining a dignified and pure environment for collective practice. Dharma Drum Institute of Liberal Arts Signs a Memorandum of Understanding with Minobusan University of Japan From March 24 to 26, President Kaie Mochizuki and Professor Kim Byung-gon from Minobusan University in Japan made a special visit to Taiwan to learn about the educational system of Dharma Drum Mountain. They were warmly welcomed by President Chen Ding-ming (陳定銘) of the Dharma Drum Institute of Liberal Arts, along with faculty, staff, and students. On the morning of the 25th at 10:30 a.m., the two institutions formally signed a memorandum of understanding. Venerable Guo Huei (果暉法師), Abbot President of Dharma Drum Mountain, also attended to offer his blessings, creating a warm and harmonious atmosphere. The memorandum of understanding includes provisions such as mutual access to facilities and academic resources, promoting exchanges between professors and researchers, advancing collaborative research projects, facilitating lectures, talks, and academic conferences, and exchanging publications. Dharma Drum Mountain Donates to the Buddhist Institute of Nine Dragons Temple in Myanmar and Signs Memorandum of Understanding On March 26, Venerable Chang Xing (常惺法師), Secretary General of Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation, led a delegation to the Su Mon La Monastic Academy in Mandalay to visit Venerable Bhaddanta Rajinda, Chan master from Nine Dragons Temple. On behalf of Dharma Drum Mountain’s monastic and lay community, Venerable Chang Xing donated funds to support and care for the resident children. The Buddhist Institute of Nine Dragons Temple in Myanmar houses more than 800 orphans, ranging from kindergarten to junior high school. The students include novice monks, Eight-Precept Nuns, and lay pupils. The institution provides food, shelter, and educational opportunities. Through the signing of this memorandum of understanding, both parties aim to strengthen mutual cooperation in areas such as charitable care and humanitarian aid, educational support, and religious and cultural exchange.
