After completing his residency at BOTH, Colombian artist Daniel Bernal @ddebernal_ presents Fluid Roots — a sculptural installation that feels urgently attuned to our current global moment.
The work features a pumping heart and oil-filled tentacle forms, drawing connections between consumerism, imperialism, colonial histories and extractive economies. Material, movement and metaphor combine to expose the systems that quietly shape contemporary life.
Daniel Bernal (b. Bogotá, 1995) works across sculpture and installation, using research, ethnographic diaries and multimedia experimentation to explore self-representation, socio-environmental concerns and human relationships to place. His practice is informed by literature, philosophy and cinema.
Selected as our 2025 Graduate Prize Winner, Daniel’s work stood out for its clarity, political edge and strong visual presence — particularly within our street-facing gallery space on a busy A-road. We are proud to present this final exhibition following his residency.

Daniel Bernal (Bogotá, 1995) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores how personal, social, and environmental histories shape our understanding of the world. Using sculpture, installation, and digital processes, his practice draws on research, writing, and material experimentation to address themes of identity, place, and human relationships.
The selection process was highly competitive, with many strong MA graduates considered. Daniel’s work stood out for its clarity of ideas and its ability to engage the gallery’s street-facing space. His project responds well to BOTH’s location and reflects the type of practice we aim to support.
We look forward to presenting the final outcome of Daniel’s residency in January.
We’re thrilled to announce that Daniel Bernal, our 2025 UAL MA Graduate Prize winner, @csm_macp@unioftheartslondon has begun his artist residency at BOTH Gallery, leading up to his solo exhibition in January.
Born in Bogotá in 1995, Daniel is an artist engaged with the unseen roots of reality. Drawing from literature, philosophy, and cinema, he develops a visual language that explores self-representation, socio-environmental issues, and gendered experience. His work—spanning sculpture, installation, and digital media—intertwines ethnographic research with poetic reflection, inviting us to consider how humans relate to their environments and each other.
Selecting this year’s winner was no easy task; we saw an incredible range of talent from MA graduates. Daniel’s work stood out for its strong narrative, political depth, and sculptural presence—qualities that resonate powerfully in our street-facing gallery space on Archway Road.
We look forward to seeing how Daniel’s practice evolves over the coming months and can’t wait to share his final exhibition with you in January.
Congratulations, Daniel!

I've been living more than a year in a place where I learned to see beyond myself. It welcomed me as one of the millions that pass through its noisy veins. It is impossible to summarize what an experience like this is like, in a post. Basically, the "thing is hard".
mientras tus ojos vidriosos
me dicen que ya no estás
y Yo
