when i started the smash yr fingers experiment, i was skeptical about it actually fostering a distinct moment in deconstructive video making. sure i was looking for boundary pushing shit, but what is it about SYF that distinguishes itself as something really special?
this latest installment, "feedbacker", left me feeling amazed, overwhelmed, proud, grateful, and seen. this city, these artists, these videos speak deeply to something radical. these vulnerable pixels shared in this intimate space among all these people with something true, sincere, and unspoken to say... this is special. you are special!
smash yr fingers is a window for any/all artists who speak a idiosyncratic language to find a fluent community. i put a lot of measures in place to incentivize this, but i didn't do this shit. YOU did this shit. you've had faith in this project, you've kept submitting, you've kept in touch with eachother, and you churned out nearly 3 hours of art you're not gonna see in any other shithole.
i couldn't be happier by what transpired on saturday, and i only hope to further secure this momentum through the years.
thank you!
thank you
@sonjira for so much help on back end admin & event organization. she brought all the moving parts of this shindig together in the final stressful moments & it woulda all fallen apart without her.
thank you
@quail.mary for being an exceptional curator. hy was an irreplaceable leader in keeping SYF a safe and awesome environment.
thank you
@kelseyborch for bringing forward your own big ideas for raising money for good causes and doing so much to ready the space for all of us! they helped expand the activities at the event and made the joint feel like a gay little carnival.
thank you
@butt.mommy for lending the space and for being so eager and confident in my hair brained ideas. i didnt know them before organizing this thing and i have no idea why they had as much confidence in my ability to execute this wild thing as they did but THANKS TO THEM FOR IT ANYWAYS!
