ENJOYED my solo date at @dcprovost
Sometimes I forget how much this is needed.
Sometimes the most radical thing you can do as a mom is remember that you existed before them.
Making time for yourself is important. Not the time after everyone is fed and bathed and settled. Intentional time. Time you protect like it matters.
Making sure you donât lose yourself is important. Motherhood will consume everything you give it. But if you pour until youâre empty, there will be nothing left to give anyone.
Having an identity outside of motherhood is important. You are a woman first. With your own interests, your own taste, with opinions and a life worth living out loud. That doesnât go away when you become a mom.
So yes. I took myself out. I ordered what I wanted. I sat with myself. And it was enough. đĽ

Black female-owned restaurant in DC with strong drinks, live entertainment, comfort food and a grown folks atmosphere đ¸đś
We made it to @dcprovost in Northeast DC and I can see why people keep coming back. If youâve been looking for a restaurant in Washington DC with good music, rooftop seating, cocktails and a more laid-back grown crowd, this is one to know about.
The inside is cozy, the music was on point, and when we visited there was even a live poet performing. The rooftop has plenty of seating, games and a big screen, so it feels more like a social hangout spot than just a quick dinner reservation.
Theyâre also opening an outdoor lower lounge area with another bar, which is going to be really nice for spring and summer in DC.
What we tried:
⢠Cornbread Muffin
⢠Superfood Salad
⢠Four Cheese Mac & Cheese Balls
⢠Ultimate Surf & Turf (very good!)
⢠Cajun Chicken & Shrimp Pasta (so flavorful. Loved it!)
⢠Provost Burger
⢠Bread Pudding
⢠Paloma
⢠New Twist Old Fashioned
⢠Hibiscus Rose Water Mocktail
And the owner, Nina, was super welcoming, which always stands out to me.

Loved trying @dcprovost , a Black Women-Owned restaurant on Rhode Island Avenue. Their soulful, farm to table dishes are packed with flavors and quality ingredients. I was so impressed with each dish we tasted. Every Sunday night they have karaoke, which pairs perfectly with the vibrant and community driven atmosphere. They are open Friday-Sunday until 10 pm, and feature happy hour all day! Canât wait to check out their brunch & rooftop next time. â¨
We tried:
Crab Quesadillas đŚ
Wild caught calamari
Superfood salad đĽ
Salmon (cooked perfectly) with coconut rice
SautĂŠed garlic spinach
Lemon drop martini đ
Bees Knees cocktail đ
Old fashioned cocktail đĽ

Iâm learning I like places where the vibe speaks before anything else⌠if there's good music, sign me up immediately!
@dcprovost is one of those spots.
Black woman-owned, two levels with a rooftop, full-service bar, DJ, karaoke and a crowd that felt very much grown folks outside (30+ energy, in a good way).
I didnât check the menu before I came (because I never do), just ordered a little bit of everything, from the stuffed snapper, shrimp & grits, bang bang shrimp, stuffed shrimp, jerk lollipop chicken, drinks⌠and overall, the food was solid. No complaints.
The owner was super welcoming, which always makes a difference, and you can tell people come here to actually catch up with friends & enjoy themselves. Very laid back scene which is something I really like.
Now I will say, this spot gets busy and itâs not a huge space, so definitely plan ahead and make a reservation.

I must say, I officially have a new favorite restaurant in DC đĽ
đProvost DC is a Black-owned, woman-owned restaurant, and when I say it felt like home. I mean it. The ambiance is cozy with our favorite old-school R&B playing in the background, games on every table to enjoy while you wait for your food, and amazing service. It didnât feel like my first visit at all.
AND THE FOOD?! All hits! The shrimp deviled eggs? I needed eight more, two was not enough. The whole grilled snapper stuffed with crab?! I havenât had anything like it. And my favorite? The jerk salmon pasta. All I can say is WOW. The salmon is wild-caught and pasta bursting with flavor.
I canât wait to go back and check out their rooftop and all day happy hour now that the weather is finally warming up đ
Highly recommend checking them out friends â¤ď¸â¨
