Denmark Community Foundation welcomed over 70 community members @thedamdenmark for a breakfast to celebrate the Denmark community, the revitalisation of our foundation and our new fully tax-deductible status. Our Chair Karen Burford said at the breakfast: “DCF are incredibly proud to be part of such a compassionate community, and it’s an honour for us to fund the fantastic work of those who make Denmark the caring and connected community that we love”. Karen went on to urge all community members to support our foundation whether it be by donating, approaching us about an area of need, coming up with a great initiative that needs funding, or telling others about us. Thank you to all who helped us celebrate and for the team at The Dam at Raintree for making it such an enjoyable event.

Congratulations to Dor, Joelle, and the team of young cooks and musicians who made @happyplatedenmark a hub of community connection and joy over their first season. It’s been an absolute pleasure for Denmark Community Foundation to support this fabulous initiative. If you haven’t been, don’t miss your last chance for the season.

If you know us, you’ll know that we love nothing more than helping the people of Denmark to connect and feel like they belong to our community. So it was a win-win when we were able to help the Denmark Bird Group purchase binoculars and a telescope. This equipment enables them to lead excursions and workshops for student groups, and to involve more members of the Denmark community in citizen science activities. We love that it combines raising awareness of the importance of conserving bird habitat with providing nature-based social opportunities for our community. Here’s a photo of South Coast TAFE Conservation and Ecosystem Management students using the binoculars at the Djerrt Mia Bird Sanctuary.

Denmark Community Foundation was excited to be able to help the great team at Denmark FM to once again bring the Schools on Air project to local students. The project saw Denmark FM return to four local schools during the 2025-26 financial year, delivering radio training to more than 220 students and counting. Students learned about radio presenting, script writing, interview techniques, and even how to produce a live lunchtime program broadcast directly from their school. The program is strongly grounded in communication skills, and teachers noted a clear improvement in students’ confidence when speaking and engaging with others. The content recorded in this project forms a 30-minute radio show airing twice per week and has been regularly re-streamed through the website at nmarkfm.com.au/schools-on-air/

Denmark Community Foundation would like to give a shout out to Green Skills Containers for Change Recycling Denmark - and all those who nominate us as a recipient when they deposit their containers - for the wonderful support they provide to us through the program. Despite being a small organisation without major overheads, to exist we still need to find funds to cover our insurance, regulatory fees, audit fees etc each year. Unfortunately, there are very few grants available to fund these operating expenses. This means the donations we receive from Containers for Change are vital – they help cover our operating expenses, and allow us to continue the work we do securing grants and funding projects that help strengthen the Denmark community. In fact, we are pleased to say that every $1 donated to us by Containers for Change this past year enabled us to bring in $25 of grant funds - funds that are helping our young people thrive, relieving social isolation and supporting those facing hardship or experiencing homelessness. Amazing! BTW – our member number is C10407712 should you wish to support us directly through the program. #denmarkwa#greatsouthern #GreatSouthernWA #community #localcommunity #daycare #denmarkcommunityfoundation #green skills #containers for change

Denmark Community Foundation has been called “the funding fairies”, and indeed sometimes it feels like we can work magic :) We heard the call out that Gumnut Corner Occasional Daycare Centre was in desperate need of funding for new flooring. This not-for-profit centre built by the community has been providing affordable and accessible community-focussed childcare to the families of Denmark for over 30 years ago. We couldn't turn away. And the result you can see for yourself - but Chelsea the Director from Gumnut Corner puts it best: “After 30 years, our beautiful learning space has been refreshed with stunning oak-washed white commercial flooring — and what a transformation it has made. Not only is it more hygienic and easy to maintain, it provides a safe, welcoming surface where children can build towers, create magical mini worlds, roll with laughter, and gather blankets to build the coziest of fortresses. The new space feels peaceful and calm — a nurturing environment where children can truly belong, explore, and thrive. Seeing the smiles and hearing the ‘wows’ from our children and families as they walked into the renewed space was truly priceless. This environment now reflects the quality of care, respect, and inclusion we proudly offer to every family without prejudice”. #denmarkwa #greatsouthern #GreatSouthernWA #community #localcommunity #daycare #denmarkcommunityfoundation

This summer, our community and visitors have been kept safe along our shores by a team of friendly and very capable Lifeguards (Shire of Denmark), Lifesavers (Denmark Surf Life Saving Club), VacSwim Instructors (Department of Education) and the Denmark Senior High School Nurse. These local heroes - formed of community members and visitors to our town - have responded to a number of incidents, large and small, and we wish to thank them all. Their efforts have helped save lives on our beaches this season, and for that Denmark Community Foundation is very grateful.
