Erich Roland // The Founder As many of you may have heard by now, we received the unfortunate news last week that Erich Roland, the founder of DC Camera, had passed away on the morning of November 11, 2025. Erich was an incredible cinematographer who worked on hundreds of projects in his career, receiving notoriety and awards acknowledging his craft, but for those that really knew him, this was something he hardly mentioned. Over the last week, we’ve heard dozens of stories about Erich from those who had the opportunity to work with him during his career. Almost all of these stories mentioned his immense generosity for those getting their start in the industry. Whether it be advice, a job, discounts on equipment, etc. Erich was often willing to take a leap of faith in supporting the “up-and-coming” in the DMV and that’s something we will continue to do for many years to come. As we look toward the future of DC Camera, the vision remains the same - to serve as a creative cornerstone in the filmmaking community. Among the many conversations between the Roland family and the Loayza family, this has always been the common thread as we continue the legacy together. Erich was still very much involved in DC Camera’s decision-making after changing hands and his input will surely be missed. Fortunately, Hans Roland, another industry veteran and Erich’s brother, will remain a part of these future conversations. We continue to see the value of small business in a creative field and will do our part in supporting those that allow us to do what we enjoy most. Thank you again to everyone that reached out to check on us and the Roland family, it means more than you know.

Spinsters // Our Indie Feature Back in late April we had the opportunity to work on our first indie feature of 2025! Spinsters - “A bittersweet comedy about two middle-aged, estranged besties who find themselves back in their hometown, struggling with aging parents, paths not taken and each other as they give up the traditional idea of “happily ever after” to embrace their own.” We were especially excited to help on this one as it was predominantly done with a local crew, many of which we get to work with frequently! Additionally it was all shot in our “backyard” in Frederick, MD. This was one of our primary goals for 2025 and we’re so happy to have been able to achieve that by mid-May! As you all well-know, supporting indie film-making in the DMV is one of our main focuses to grow the creative community here. Projects like these are always a treat as it allows us to switch it up from our traditional bread and butter of interviews and political docs so please send more our way! Anyways, we hope you enjoy these photos of the crew and our gear in action. Thanks again to the Spinsters team for providing us with this opportunity to help on this. Cheers to many more projects like this in 2025 and beyond! #shotonred #reddigitalcinema #indiefilmmaking

// Our SR3 - The Talk of the Town // For those of you that are new here, last spring we purchased an ARRIFFLEX SR3 to add to our inventory. This has been the first motion picture camera we’ve owned since the very beginning of DC Camera and we’re very proud to be able to offer this package to you in this ever-growing digital world. Since then, we’ve had a lot of time to work with this camera, offer demos, answer questions and support a number of projects looking to shoot on real film. In addition, we’ve also made a number of notable upgrades to “modernize” our camera to fit the needs of contemporary productions: ARRIFLEX SR3 KIT: - Alan Gordon Enterprises 2K Video tap (includes 2x SDI inputs for both wireless video and on-board monitoring) - 80/20 Viewfinder Prism (allows you to use eye-piece + on-board monitor simultaneously) - Rencher Industries Gold-Mount Adapter Plate (includes P-Tap ports for powering accessories) - Ratworks Top Handle + Long Side-plate (countless 1/4-20” & 3/8” threaded holes for mounting accessories like Teradeks/Focus Motors/etc.) - Custom BasePlate Riser (made by Tristan to be compatible with modern 19mm Arri BP-8 w/ dovetail) LENSES: - S16 Zeiss Super Speed 4-lens set (9.5, 12, 16, 25) - Not included in kit but available in-house It’s no secret that film has made a huge comeback in the last few years and we’re happy that we can play a role in that! In addition, our friends at Colorlab will offer a 10% discount on processing with proof of rental of our SR3. As always, please tell your friends and reach out if you have any questions for us! #kodakshootfilm #rigdose
