Screaming happy third birthday to the project that changed my entire life in the best way! Three whole years of Queer & Now = 85 editions spanning 156 weeks — covering everything from protests to plays, concerts to weddings, community leaders, and community crisises. I’m forever grateful to the team @NowToronto & @gonezmedia for believing in this project, and to every artist, expert, activist, community member and ally who lent their time and expertise or shared their story with me. It’s all been part of making my dream of creating a platform for our community and by our community possible. So cheers to ya’ll and to many more editions of Q&N🎉🥳🥂🏳️‍🌈 #toronto #pride #queermedia #canadianmedia

Happy Lesbian Visibility Week to all my babes holding down the L in 2SLGBTQ+! When @staceyannchin said “The business of Dykes and Dykery… is often messy, with social relations as they are,” I felt that in my bones. Growing up in a less than accepting environment (😅), it took a long time to feel comfortable claiming the word as my own. But now every time I talk about my identity as a Lesbian, it feels like reclaiming all of the years that I spent worried about what openly identifying this way would mean for my future. Three years into writing a Queer culture column for @nowtoronto , a newspaper that I love, a year into a degree @carleton.fist researching Queer women’s leadership in the Caribbean, and privileged to be loved and supported by my family and community, I know that living my truth has changed my whole life for the better. But at this point in my life, I also acknowledge that this isn’t everyone’s experience of coming out. I want to iterate that if people being visible about their identities as #Queer makes you uncomfortable, you are a part of the problem, and why we keep talking about it. Days and weeks of visibility are important for confronting this. Representation is crucial to solving this. Happy #LesbianVisibilityWeek to all you #Lesbians, out and proud or otherwise, I hope you feel seen in the best way 366🩷🧡

That’s a wrap on ya girl’s first year teaching undergraduate students🤓📚 Being a TA and getting to teach first years about the importance of feminism and its impact on human rights for two semesters was my favourite part of the first year of grad school, and getting to put my own twist on it with queer and Caribbean context (& mandatory Soca music breaks) was everything🤌🏼✨ Prof Banfield soon come🧠

We’re in NOW Toronto 🖤 In the latest Queer & Now column by @dcbanfield , the article highlights how we’re centering Black 2SLGBTQI+ voices across Canada and turning lived experiences into research, policy insight, and stronger community networks. As Zoë David-Delves shares in the piece, Black queerness is deeply diverse — and meaningful research must reflect the many intersections that shape our communities. Read the full story in NOW Toronto.
