This is my post announcing the beautiful event we are doing this Earth Day for a cause that is so near and dear to my heart. This Wednesday please come dance a good time with us at @ashevillemusichall_onestop for THE BASSMENT: SQUIDS KIDS EARTH DAY FUNDRAISER. It will be an incredible time featuring amazing performances by Local Asheville Legends @Dayowulf and @nexmillen and others! My late mother and my sister @leandra_paige started supporting Mama Esther’s incredible work at Green Olive in Mtwapa, Kenya almost 20 years ago. Since then my whole family have been committed to supporting the orphanage raising money and collecting goods to be delivered on the yearly trips my Mom and Aunt would plan. Many dollars, clothes, musical instruments and other things have been donated to Green Olive over the years. However the work never stops and it is my true honor to continue on in my family mission to help to try provide Mama Esther and Green Olive the resources they need to keep a beautiful supportive community alive for children who otherwise would be brought up in absolutely devastating conditions. And the work Mama Esther has done is incredible. Green Olive started as an orphanage and while one of its main functions is and will always be to provide a home for children who otherwise wouldn’t have one it is serves a school, a farm and a community center for all children in the Mtwapa community. Not only are children able to have a home and a community but they will also have the chance to get through school and live a normal successful life as they grow into adulthood. There are many costs associated with keeping Green Olive running whether it be the living costs of each child, maintaining and improving the infrastructure to provide a good safe quality of life to all the children, or paying for the school fees of each student to be in line with the education requirements of Kenya. However due to the exchange rate of currency US Dollars, even a small donation really does go a long way. To sponsor one of the kids to go to school for a whole year is $200. Total. The money is used to buy supplies and uniforms to send these kids to cool. It costs around $200 USD to finance 1 child’s education for a full year. 💕 Please support us in our efforts to make a tangible impact on this planet, while having fun! What a long and crazy ride life has been and continues to be. I am winding down my event promoter chapter. It is a natural role to evolve into as an Artist in Babylon, but I’m happy to let it go. I have been finding more and more peace in my life and have been finding myself having less and less to say. For sure, you can get me going, but generally speaking I’m just at live and let live. I’m following my desire to be tangibly of service through and so I’m going to start electrician classes at my local community college this fall. I’ve gone there before and know it’s a wonderful school. I’m happy my life is rich and full right now. I’m sad I can’t be a successful event promoter. So I’m letting that one go. There will be more shows hosted by me in the future, but it’ll be as the inspiration hits and not just because. I’ve got my hands full for now. The Bassment’s 2 month run begins this Wednesday April 15th here in Asheville, NC. Come check it out. Who knows when the next Dayowulf hosted event will be after that? Ha ha. Los amo. Los quiero.
