This is a painting of my Dad getting arrested at an Extinction Rebellion protest on the Bloor Viaduct in Toronto, in 2019, before he was diagnosed with cancer. He died 6 days ago. I really respect his commitment to raising awareness about climate change with his act of civil disobedience, and thank him for his service to the cause. Proud of you, Dad ❤

Sharing a few memories of my dad, Stephen Elliot Lye, who died peacefully on Nov 6th at Hennick Bridgepoint hospital, of stage 4 prostate cancer. Dad was a dreamer, a creative spirit who told great stories and thought about things from a unique perspective. He sometimes forgot about practical stuff! But was there through it all, devoted to his family. Memories are from some hospital stays, as well as the cottage, camping, our beloved Toronto Islands, and treasured, imperfect family times. Not gone, but set like the sun. Love you dad 🌈💫
Finishing up our homeschool study of amazing owls! 🦉 The felt owls made by my kids are named Plum and Mango 😍 I do recommend Owls in the Family by Farley Mowat, but it requires contextualization about racism, and wildlife preservation!
In praise of rakes. Just simple, quiet rakes. I can still hear birds sing when I use one. The one pictured was my grandparents' so it's at least 30 years old, and I probably used it as a kid, too. I wish more things were made to last. Don't buy them if they're not!
