Ironman 70.3 Muscat 🇴🇲☀️ What a way to kick off the season. Going from indoor winter sessions in Zurich to racing in 30°C heat is… let’s call it an honest wake-up call 😅🔥 Quite happy with the swim for once 🏊‍♂️ — felt controlled, strong and actually enjoyed it. The run split also gave me confidence that the engine is there early in the year 🏃‍♂️💨 On the bike… well, you can’t hide from missing a few proper hard cycling sessions 😏🚴‍♂️ That part was a clear reminder of what still needs sharpening. Didn’t secure the slot for the 70.3 World Champs in Nice this time — but honestly, I’m leaving Muscat with something more important: the feeling that the foundation is solid and I’m on the right track. Early season. Strong base. Plenty to build on. New Year 2026 🤍 This New Year started with very mixed emotions. While we welcomed 2026 surrounded by nature, cold water and sunshine, our thoughts are with all those affected by the tragic events in Crans-Montana, where a night of celebration turned into an unimaginable loss. Moments like these are a brutal reminder of what truly matters in life. Not plans, not parties, not achievements — but health, safety, family, and gratitude for every moment we get together. Tonight, and always, we hold our loved ones a little closer and feel deeply thankful to be safe. Welcome to the World, Alea-Jane On January 8th, 2025, at 4:00 AM, after 27 long and challenging hours, we finally got to meet the most precious gift of our lives—our beautiful daughter, Alea. It was far from an easy birth and probably the hardest thing we have ever done, but every moment was worth it the second we held her in our arms. Alea weighs 3090 grams and measures 49 cm of perfection. She is a blend of David and me, a little miracle we created together. Our hearts are overflowing with love as we begin this incredible new chapter as a family. 🏊‍♂️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️ Kona, you were one wild ride! 🌋🌴 My first Ironman World Championship, and it was everything. Started with a calm, steady swim, just me and the open water, staying focused and controlled. Then, onto the bike, rolling through those iconic lava fields on the Queen K. @hartwegmichael and I prepped for this moment so many times, and when the crosswinds hit hard, I was ready. I kept thinking, “This is it. Soak up every second.” Between the heat, the headwinds, and some seriously strategic hydration, I held on, and my mind stayed cool—even as the temps soared. Then came the marathon. And trust me, the Queen K stretch is just as long and unforgiving as they say. I told myself, “Race doesn’t start until the Energy Lab.” But wow, when I finally hit the energy lab, it was like a switch flipped. The finish line felt close, and my legs still had some fight left. And as the rain started pouring in those last kilometers, I couldn’t help but laugh—every race this season had rain. It was like the universe’s own finish-line salute. 🌧️ Crossing that line and seeing @michelle_krebs94_ waiting there... words don’t even come close. My rock, my love, my constant support. She stood by me every step of the way, 31 weeks pregnant and as strong as ever. She’s been there through all the early mornings, late nights, and every high and low in between. Couldn’t have done this without her—she’s been my heart and my strength from day one. Huge thanks to my coach @janvberkel , for guiding me all the way here, to Michael for being the best training partner anyone could ask for, to the Hartweg family who waited at the finish line with lots of love and hugs and to everyone who supported this crazy journey. Now, we’re shifting gears to our next adventure… a little one arriving in January 2025! 👶💕 This race was my dream, and Kona, you didn’t disappoint. If this is the end of my long-distance racing, then I couldn’t have asked for a better way to finish. Tomorrow is what you have been working so hard for,for weeks and months on end… tomorrow is the day you dreamt about since you started triathlon, tomorrow is the day you can show how hard you have worked for to get here. Tomorrow is the day ill be with you every second of every minute, every stroke, pedal and footstep along the way. Tomorrow will not be the only time that ill be proud of you because i have been since iv met you. You have been my inspiration from day one. Iv been following you through this journey and seen how hard you have worked. Your motivation, determination and dedication is something words will never be able to describe. Heading off today to the famous islands of Hawaii and more precisely to Kailua-Kona on big island to do it one more time - trying to cross the finish line of the Ironman World Champs. This is a place and an adventure which means so much to me and has been instrumental for my further direction in life - it all happened 28 years ago when i did it the last time, finishing this iconic race full of history of this amazing sport called Triathlon which has given me so much in life. 28 years ago we learned a few days before the race that Carola, my then girl friend and todays wife and myself are not the only ones sleeping in our bed - a third little human was actually on the way, our todays amazing daughter Julia whom i am so proud of. This changed everything in our life and most likely lined up everything which followed in our lives afterwards and i am incredibly humbled and thankful for how it all worked out having a great family with 2 more amazing children which means everything to me. How lucky i am that i am today in a position and shape to do this again, 28 years later - supported by my amazing wife, our now 27 years old daughter and her boyfriend Adrian on-site and Niklas and Leonie from home. 2 more weeks to go - i am looking forward to crossing this finish line one more time 🤩🔥. Thanks to everyone for your goood wishes and support - it means a lot to me. 🌧️🏊‍♂️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️ Ironman Switzerland Recap Last weekend’s Ironman Switzerland in Thun was a true test of grit and determination. The race started with a cold and rainy swim that had me battling an upset stomach from the get-go. Despite feeling off my game, I powered through and finished the swim in 1h10, with a considerable gap to the front swimmers. Transitioning to the bike, I skipped warm clothes and focused on deep breathing and hitting my target watts. To my surprise, my legs felt strong! I maintained my nutrition and aero position, finishing the first bike lap comfortably in 2h28 at 240NP. Even after a chain mishap, I pushed harder and entered T2 in 4th place with the best bike split in my age group! Starting the marathon, I aimed to keep a steady rhythm, but my stomach had other plans. At km 32, I had to make a crucial toilet break, losing my rhythm and a few positions. Nevertheless, I finished the marathon with a new PB and crossed the line as 6th in my age group, securing my ticket to the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii! 🌺🏆 I’m beyond thrilled with the result and performance despite the race’s ups and downs. A massive thank you to my friends and family for all your support, both on the track and at home. Your energy and motivation kept me going! Special shoutout to my amazing partner @michelle_krebs94_ for her unwavering support all day long, and huge congrats to @hartwegmichael for his stellar performance.
