When @matejklima and I came up with the idea to hitchhike, we hoped to at least make it across the border. 54 hours later and 1100 km further, we stood in amazement with our feet in the sea. 🌊
I never would have believed that hitchhiking could be such an amazing way to travel. One time you catch a ride on a third try, another time after two hours of desperation, you plan to give it five more minutes before calling it a night, and a minute later you're sitting in a car with a millionaire who drives you to Belgium for six hours. 🚗
10.5 hours of waiting, 2,000 cars, 15 rides, 15 fascinating people. No certainty where you'll be, when or how you’ll get there. One night you sleep in a tent, the next in a vacation home of someone you met just a few hours ago. I still can't believe it.
These mountains formed millions of years ago, and originally, the site of the Tatras was home to the 'proto-Tatras,' which stood over 3,000 meters tall and with rounded peaks and ridges looked more like a large hill. 🗻
It's incredible to imagine that from the gradual accumulation of tiny particles at the bottom of the ancient sea, followed by orogeny (mountain-building process), something we now call mountains emerged. 🤯
