Monotypes, Acryl on Cuve Paper 170g
Uniques, 76 x 56 cm / 56 x 38 cm
On display at La Vitrine until April 18, a series of ‘belt-struck’ monotypes — some kind of Action Painting in contrast to my more « meticulous » painting practice — as a critical attempt to replay a violent gesture from a certain social, political, and cultural legacy, while experimenting with the original immediacy of direct printing by the ink-coated belt impacted on paper.

During my three-month stay in New York at @ResidencyUnlimited , I chose to slightly change my painting practice, a process that systematically combines vector-based abstract forms with realistic elements within a single canvas, creating a kind of diagram.
In this new series I tried a split arrangement of these elements across multiple canvases. The abstract vocabulary was reduced to rectangular or tondos monochrome canvas, (which I had long wanted to paint) while the representational register became a single filiform motif: some electric wires.
The selection of this particular motif was motivated by its simple linear, drawing-like qualities and chromatic variability (they can basically be found in any color) I liked that they function as infrastructural traces: lines that organize and sustain the flows of everyday life, largely unnoticed yet indispensable.
This installation can be seen as an attempt to create a cohesive, networked system in which monochromes and wires coexist — modernist echoes and figurative hiccups — opposed in both style and concept, yet engaged in dialogue.
*This work was shown in two collective events
