David (or Dawud in Islam) is the ultimate underdog who used a sling to take down the giant Goliath (or Jalut). In Judaism, he’s the shepherd-king who founded Jerusalem; in Christianity, he’s a key ancestor of Jesus; and in Islam, he’s a prophet who received the Psalms. This "Giant Slayer" story is everywhere in history—like the Greek hero Odysseus blinding the Cyclops, the Norse god Thor smashing frost giants (Jötunn), or Jack the Giant Killer from English fairy tales. Different names and cultures, but the same idea: a weaker yet smart hero beating a massive bully.
I hope that davidmap.org can act as one small pebble, and help in our collective struggle against oppression and violence as we, the 99%, organise in an increasingly dangerous world.
