Christie, a senior at Hendrickson High School in PfISD, has earned one of only 12 spots as a dancer and performer for a callback audition in Colorado with the Drum Core International (DCI) marching band āTroopers.ā This is a huge accomplishment after two years of auditioning, and itās the closest sheās ever been to accepting an offer during her high school career.
To participate this season, Christie needs to raise additional funds to cover travel, equipment, tuition, and food. She has shown incredible dedication and commitment to her dream, working hard to save what she can. One of my fourth-grade scholars @basisaustin1 has been published in his first book, āas Iā¦A Simple Journey to Developing Your Inner Poet,ā a poetry collection written by a father and his two children. This is volume one. (The bookās cover is a painting that they made together.)
At 7 AM today, I hustled to the gym to pick up a heavy cardboard box with over 30 copies of The MEPS first poetry collection. Today my fourth-grader generously gifted one copy of his book to every little bat in his element in class today!
Iāve included one of his poems, āHug.ā Fifteen of his poems are included in this collection of āoriginal poems from emerging and experienced voices,ā including āreflections on love, fear, faith, resilience, identity, and purpose.ā

Dueling White Boards! šø I see one of my fourth-grade English classes after their academic enrichment class (study hall); this week for Teacher Appreciation Week, our scholars have been surprising me with saccharine messages on the white board when I enter the classroom. Today they decided to do a girls versus boys competitionāthe boys decorated one white board, and the girls decorated another. They asked me which one I thought was better, the girlsā or the boysā white board. What would you have said to the kiddos?
