At just 14 years old, Dirty Danger produced four instrumentals that would become foundational to the Ruff Sqwad sound and the early evolution of grime. First released as white labels in 2005, Together, Misty Cold, Anna and Down have stood the test of time, remaining staples of grime history and influencing generations of producers and MCs.
While the records were well received and sold strongly in shops on release, the lasting impact of Ruff Sqwad’s sound has only grown with time. Today, original white label copies fetch extortionate prices on eBay and Discogs. To mark 20 years since their original release, Dirty Danger has revisited four of his most iconic productions for a newly remastered vinyl EP.
To coincide with the release, Dirty Danger has shared insight into the making of the instrumentals, offering a rare glimpse into the inspiration behind Ruff Sqwad’s influential sound:
“If I could name one great thing about music, it would be the fact that it can literally make you time-travel. Core memories are constantly relived when I listen back to these beats I made as a school kid. What a time to be alive.”
