It's episode-drop day here at Platemark Centrale. Today I talk with David Barthold whose journey as a printmaker began at age 13, took him through the legendary studio of Atelier 17 in Paris, and eventually led to a hiatus that ended in a burst of lino-cut street art during the pandemic. You can find the episode wherever you get your podcasts or over on YouTube. David Barthold. Sabubu, 2012. Copperplate engraving. Plate: 11 7/8 x 17 3/4 in.; sheet: 13 ¼ x 22 ¼ in. Bold lines, deep blacks, and a little bit of mischief. This linocut by davidfbarthold shows the expressive power of relief printmaking, where carved marks and strong shapes create striking images with just ink and paper. Interested in learning how to make prints like this? David will be teaching a linocut printmaking workshop at Powerhouse Arts next session is March 12. We will also be showing work at the Brooklyn Fine Art Print Fair at Powerhouse Arts, April 9–12. #linocut #linocutprint #reliefprint #printmaking #printmaker #brooklynart #brooklynartists #powerhousearts #printmakingworkshop #overpassprojects
