We hiked 4,700 feet (1,450 meters) above sea level in the Austrian Alps—specifically, the Wilder Kaiser mountains in Tyrol—to a 300-year-old hut to pay a visit to Theresa, a woman who spends the warm-weather months here tending to the cows for the @stanglwirt farm. Our reward? Watch and find out! Sound on!
In 1977, Minneapolis-based photographer Robert Whitman (aka @robertwhitmanphoto ) got a call from a friend asking if he’d take some pics of a 19-year-old musical genius with a curious name. He did and now those photos are iconic.
It was such a pleasure spending some time with Mr. Whitman in his studio/home yesterday in SoHo, looking at his photos of that young pre-fame musician who the world would soon learn is Prince Rogers Nelson.
I also mentioned Whitman and his photos in my recent New York Times article on Prince and sites in and around Minneapolis where you can follow the “purple trail.” Link, as they say, in the bio.
Big thanks to my friend @cocchettokid for arranging it.
You can’t throw a cow bone in New York City these days without hitting a new steakhouse. Last week I ate at one of them: @TheDynamoRoom . It was excellent.
I’ve been yearning to go to @cocinaconsuelonyc for at least a year and I finally made it for breakfast today. It very much lived up to all my inflated expectations. The masa pancake is maybe the best pancake I’ve ever had. And the papas con huevo was excellent too. Thanks for making the trek with me, @abbiekozolchyk

After 25 years, I revisited my alma mater, University of California, Santa Cruz (aka @ucsc ), a stunning campus set in a redwood forest on a hill overlooking Monterey Bay. The university’s mascot, the banana slug, fittingly resides in redwood forests.
